Nah. I'm too lazy to do that.
You're weak, lol!
Seriously, though, don't switch to winter tires at least until you see sub-freezing temps on your commute. If it warms up after that - it's your choice

It ain't the tires stupids (anal tire tech posters).. Even a jeep cannot hold the road. It is driver error, especially on ICE. So paleeeeze, put the tire tech stuff in some other thread and concentrate on driver skills. This thread has become like "which oil should I use" threads: ad nauseam.

Well this is a pretty dumb thing to say considering how weather conditions can literally change within minutes.

Thanks for the Car & Driver reference. The MichelinPilot Sport A/S will be my replacement tire. (Southern Michigan)

You seem incapable of separating facts from marketing. Show me an actual TEST, not a manufacturer advert.

There are very few tests of the supposedly "known fact" of winter tires being better in the dry. Should be very easy to prove, should it?

I will repeat my two favorite tests:
Evo's
Read the whole thing before you dismiss it. This is Evo, they don't do stupid tests of dry cold handling in warm weather.
Money quote:

Number two: C&D piece. For all relevant purposes their A/S UHP is like a summer tire, with bare minimum for winter traction. Summer tire would be better than that, but just a hair.

Anyway, dry braking 60-0mph, 23F:
UHP A/S (Pilot Sport A/S) 128FT
Regular A/S (HX MXM4) A/S 130FT
Perf.Winter (Pilot Alpin PA3) 141FT
I&S (Xi2) 158FT.

You can get hell-bent over wether Pilot Sport A/S are really summer tires or not, but you CANNOT deny that winter tires SUCK in the dry, and at temps below freezing are STILL WAY BEHIND A/S and summer tires in the dry. The "7C" notion is a complete lie, and deceptive marketing. Do not drive on your winter tires when temps are above freezing, you're giving up grip FOR NOTHING.
Perf.Winter:

And I think I should add this to every post on the subject: I do not advocate driving on summer tires in the winter, all I'm saying is that winter tires SUCK in the dry, and one should drive on them accordingly.

Also, quit post-whoring and clean the fark up after yourself.

One word. Awe some.

This car can be a total hoot to drive but only if you know what you're doing. These pictures are of someone who does.

Fan f'ng tastic!

It is *theoretically* possible to take, say, Pilot Super Sports, and to tweak the compound a bit toward colder operating temps *but keep the thread/sidewall the same*, and it will give *a hair* more grip at 7C and below than regular PSS. But *nobody produces such a tire*.
Apparently Michelin now does. It's called the Pilot A/S 3.

Bought the car October 2012, First rwd car and only got used to the whole RWD platform in the snow! Taught myself a lot with thankfully no damage!

Then used what i learned and applied it to the pavement for autox the whole summer

I think those might be discontinued by now, the new Pilot Sport A/S 3 are good though.
One thing they didn't test - ice. And those will be dreadful on ice, so watch out for those days.

Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed last winter on Xi3. Both in snow and in the dry, but I'm not a grip junkie and enjoy it more when my car is loose. Low dry grip was fun despite the soft sidewall, I just had to remember to stay further back from other cars on the hwy.

Unfortunately, the usually excellent Evo neglected to post the ambient temperature when they did this test.

ALL the tire companies and the rubber association confirm the 7C crossover point. ALL of them.

Regrettably, both Evo and Edmunds just forgot the importance of temperature.

As it gets colder the summer tires get worse and worse until they eventually just disintegrate.

Your mileage may vary but I'm sure glad you're a long way from where I am.
