So, I race a lot of Nurburg rooms and drift on other tracks when it comes to Online stuff. In Nurburg rooms, you can find the damage set to light since you can't pit till 7+min later due to track length. And light will give mechanical damage and after a few moments of a crappy driving car (broken gear box feeling), it will return to normal. But by that time you are 20+secs behind.

If you aren't much of an online racer, you should give it a try.
Crashes still happen with very good Ring drivers, as they keep together and you're screwed if you even mess up one major corner exit by scrubbing off too much speed, as you'll never catch up.

Then again, I run with folks who normally run 420pp on the Ring. Very little room for error with that performance ceiling. There, Miatas, 86's, Elises, etc. driven properly with the right suspension and transmission (dog box required for the customization factor, just about... though sometimes a car's close ratio can still do fine) do very well. But if you don't corner right, you'll never catch up.

General lap times for the good drivers there are sub 8' runs. My best time was 8:17 in GT5 in the BRZ (the one pictured in my sig). I'm still tuning my GT6 FR-S and "Racing" 86 (totally different suspensions, same power train) for the Ring. Turning under throttle is good in the FR-S, but I'm still having massive straight line push issues when trying to steer under heavy short braking. It's not a power issue, and I'm thinking it's not a diff issue either, but probably a combination of cornering technique and spring or damper settings. Messing with the sways just produces nasty snap oversteer when I'm riding the curbstones or accidentally slip 2 wheels onto the grass, so that's no solution. Problem is that it's hard to judge speed, and just like real life, you don't have time to watch your speedometer. I barely have time to notice the flashing shift light on the tach at times and go by engine sound alone for when to shift near redline.

Oh yea for sure. It's a tight track and passing has to be calculated. Same here. I enjoy the 400-500pp cars the most.

I will have to go back and see my lap times for my 86's. I want to say low 8mins.

My PSN ID is SirTheo (from back when the PSN wouldn't let you have a user name that was too similar to your email, thus they wouldn't let me use SirBrass). The folks I run with usually run a closed room, but occasionally open a public one up. Good time to get known. You WILL get faster if you stick with running with them, as the sheer challenge of trying to keep up will force you to improve.

Now that we've got additional awesome tracks, though, we're not going to be doing exclusive Ring, though. There'll be shift kart nights, matterhorn runs, bathurst, etc. as well now.

You know, Actually there was a mission in GT6 the one with the GT-Rs, the AI was pretty damn aggressive on that mission shocked me for a minute. AI actually kept pace on me for once. I still out cornered the AI though. But I would agree the AI does need some work, and has for some time.

Yea the GTR vs GTR challenge was pretty fun and he had me running...hehee. I still won of course. I didn't know the track, but as soon as I learned it more I would get him nicely.

slightly off topic but...has anyone seen any DIY "playseat" rigs that are worth really worth build? A 2nd one doesn't seem very expensive but just curious if there was a popular DIY model in the sim community

I considered something like that, but honestly I'm comfortable enough driving from my LaZboy using a wheelstand.

Just drove Matterhorn. That track is unreal! Crazy elevation and beautiful.

I have been using 120 PP (give or take a few) LESS than what the races call for, to make battling the AI more challenging.

So let me get this straight.

Forza 5 has a section called RALLY Cars, where you select Rally production type cars to race with, in a Section called RALLY Cars.

There is just one thing....No Dirt was harmed in the making of the races. And a Scion tC is in a Rally event?

That's because the UK company behind it was from some of the ex-group who made the PC racing sim GTR... actual recorded sounds from racecars and such that sound like the real deal.

I read an article the other day that gave really good perspective between GT6 and FM5. GT6 had essentially been in development for a decade (extension of GT5 which felt woefully incomplete) for a console that had been out and available since 2006. As such, there is quite a lot of carryover from older games (dating back to PS2 days for many of the car models). For FM5, everything had to be rebuilt from the ground up. Everything has higher detail and higher level of polygon complexity. Instead of cutting corners by shoe-horning in the old stuff, they ONLY included the new stuff. As a *launch title* for a brand new console, it's fantastic. As a continuation and sequel to FM4? Maybe not so much. There are plenty of little things I like better about FM4 than FM5, but I still VERY MUCH enjoy a lot of things with FM5.
