Throwing the gauntlet down. Gran Turismo or Forza?
So I've recently developed some repetitive strain injuries in my hands. This sharply limits my computer time, which eliminates my computer game hobby.
Well, I still need some electronic escapism to pass the time. So I'm thinking of buying a console+wheel, and using driving games to fill the void. But I'm not sure where to go-PS3+GT6, or the upcoming xbox+Forza? Note that I'd be buying a nice wheel with full rotation, not a cheap 3/4 turn one. If that makes a difference. Also note that I don't own a TV, I'd be hooking this up to my 27" monitor. I liked Forza more years and years ago...but that was GT3 vs Forza 2, I think. Not sure how much that matters these days. So! Forza or Gran Turismo? :burnrubber: |

Both.

Go with Forza. More realistic engine sounds, more customization, better driving dynamics, more realism. Gran Turismo is good, but it's not Forza good.

New Forza only have less cars than previous one.
Specially down side is no Nurburgring. Me? GT. Why? Cuz of these Toyota FT-86 Concept GRMN Toyota FT-86 Concept (turbo) Toyota FT-86 Concept II Toyota 86 Racing Toyota 86 Race Car Base Model Subaru BRZ GT300 Subaru BRZ R&D Sport & yes, all of em are totally different than stock model. Don't care for em? How bout these? '12 MONSTER Tajima Sport E-RUNNER Pike Peak Special Audi R18 TDI RE Amemiya RX-7 Lancia Stratos Nissan R390 GT1 GT Red Bull X2010 & X2011 & lists just keep going & going |
Just so we have the breakdown in costs.
Xbox One = 500 bucks Thrustmaster TX = 400 bucks Forza 5 = 60 bucks PS3 = 200 bucks Logitech G27 = 220-250 bucks OR Thurstmaster T500RS = 530-550 bucks Gran Turismo 6 = 60 bucks So it depends on your pockets. You said you want a good wheel. You're going to be out just under a grand if you want to go with Forza, or 500-800 to go with Gran Turismo. Sucks that all of the old Fanatec wheels don't work with the XB1, nor did they ever get Logitech support. I love Forza a lot, but I chose the PS4 this time. I may get a G27, and that way if I want to play on the PS4 with GTwhatever, I'm set. In the meantime, I can use the G27 to play PC sims as well. Speaking of which, I don't wanna get all pc master race here, but if you want the most realistic experience, pc sims such as iracing are probably the way to go. At least until we see Project CARS on the new systems. |
If you already have a PC for games, why not just save a crap ton of money by only getting a wheel to go with your PC?

GT5 was awful and I have absolutely zero faith for GT6. On the other hand, FM3 was one of my all-time favorites, FM4 was almost equally as good. FM5 looks absolutely amazing. I'm getting my copy Friday. And in terms of cars, FM5 will come from the factory with Indycars, F1 cars, and LeMans LMP cars. Support for these will likely be extended to DLC. I am VERY VERY excited to see Indycar in here and will be curious to see how the feel of the F1 cars compares to the Codemasters titles. :burnrubber: |
I think Forza 4 was better than anything that came before it on Playstation1/2/3 and Xbox/360. They physics model was simply superior. Supposedly that physical model for F5 has entered a whole new realm. Microsoft has a pretty good (business) relationship with Formula 1 and some of that data has trickled down to Turn10 and into the game.
My biggest complaint was the lack of steering wheel support. If that doesn't change for Forza 5 I will not be buying an Xbox One or F5. |

Between Forza and Grand Tourismo I like Forza better, but they both fall short to actual SIMULATION titles you can get on PC. |
Just my opinion but it depends on what you like.
For racing sim = IRacing on PC with cockpit, wheel and pedals. Limited car selection and tracks but closest to real racing with suspension tuning. For racing sim/game = GT5 with cockpit wheel and pedals for realism, controller for arcade style racing game. Great selection of cars and tracks with simpler chassis tuning. Good online competition. AI not so good. Car and tire dynamics are the biggest improvement according to reviews For racing game = Forza on Xbox with controller or wheel/pedals. Great customization. Great look and sound. Good AI. Driving and vehicle crashes are more arcade like than sim like IMO. I just never got hooked on the game. I have used all three. If I want sweaty palms and a rapid hearbeat like I used to get when I really raced then I turn on iRacing and climb into my cockpit. If I want more casual competition then I turn on GT4 (soon to be GT5) and climb into my cockpit with the G27 wheel and inverted pedals. I got rid of Forza, the Fanatec wheel and the Xbox. |
