The $3500 price is a myth, I was quoted upwards of $4800 from Motec west.. with dealer discounts.

So, the only thing we "loose" is OBD-II ? Who is gonna be the first to build an OBD-II emulator that will spit out all the correct responses to an emisions test query??

That would be awesome. Correct me if I'm wrong but that person might end up in jail?

It is definitely illegal and I would expect the same thing to happen to who ever makes that and sells it that Edge had happen to them if not worse. Would still love to see it done though.

Make it an opensource project, put it on GitHub. Add a disclaimer in the source code; "*For off road use only". As long as you don't market it as an emissions test bypass I'm not sure there is much the state can do. The individual using the software however....

How is this any different from flashes that have the readiness code handler modified to report pass regardless of the actual test result? I would imagine the authorities would be more interested in chasing down those who make such modifications on low cost tunes and sell them like hotcakes vs. a sophisticated EMS that costs 1/4 of the new price of the vehicle to purchase and tune.

haha, also for all you VA folks, emissions are a county reg not state. That being said if you tell the DMV that your vehicle is "Garage" location is somewhere like Richmond (I have never been asked to show proof) then you don't have to get emissions. Just remember that you will be paying personal property tax to that county however.

Yes the Motec ECU is "for off road use only"!

LJ and John have been testing for us with very good results and the release is immanent!

We're pretty close to open source on this project. The 86 ECU firmware is based on the GPR (M150) package which is our generic engine package. This source code is available to those who purchase the M1 developers tool kit.

The vehicle specific code is not available as we don't want to give this to our competitors but this is about 5% of the total package. I'm sure there are a number of people out there with the skill set to make there own M1 firmware for the 86 doing their own CAN reverse engineering, and then they can add what ever extra features they like!

That sounds more like a projected retail to me, given the pricing of a base M150 and similar licenses.

Pricing is going to vary, because many are going to be selling kits with jumper looms of their own making. Or someone may just want to buy the ECU and 86 license and build a jumper themselves.

My testing has gone very well, and have put a lot of miles on the car past week or so in various conditions (including some TC testing in the snow the other day, rough job). I have been using the M1 platform on a couple projects for a while now, and it is an amazing new ECU platform. Nothing else on the market is even remotely close. The FRS literally drives better than stock.

I spoke with Simon today at PRI and he confirmed that the price is indeed around $3800 for the FRS pack. (they finally had official price sheets, not speculation).

I think my FRS drives like crap with stock ECU, I cant wait to get mine installed. Specially low rpm, low speed.

Anyone want a M800 and M600?
