I signed a contract to buy one on 30 July, 2011 when it was touted around $35k and I always thought it would be a few grand more, but $50k is ridiculous. I'm now cancelling my order! FU Toyota - I'm off to buy a BRZ which will arrive sooner anyway.

buy BRZ? wouldn't be the same price as the 86 in that case? Might as well buy a WRX.

They were right. The car will be cheap. Just not in Australia. The BRZ 86 is technically a +25 thousand dollar car...Probably less. And that's what Americans will pay for it. Our prices will always be higher than what the Americans will pay. I know this because I'm American. you probably already knew this but in USA you can buy a brand new STI for about 35 thousand dollars. LOL and the new BMW M3 is only a 60 thousand dollar car in America.

?HUH?
And what was the problem with the 2zz? they were a GREAT engine??
141kw out of a 1.8l n/a.... I was close to putting one in my ae86...
What are you expecting?? You don't buy high power, turbo, rwd for $40k.....
MX5 is close to 50k (and above for higher spec) and they have considerably LESS power and less torque than this...
Why are people STILL expecting a new supra out of this?
Have any of you actually owned a twin cam ae86? That is the thought behind it.... It isn't supposed to be fast. How come people haven't got that through their heads yet?!?!?!

You can't compare to mx5 price here because Mazda jacked it up as there is no competition..
There is nothing wrong with this car apart from the alleged price

If they price it in the $40K range their up against the hot hatch market that would eat the 86 alive with how well they handle and stock power these days.

will be interesting to see how it does with car comparos once it's out.........that will determine if it gets volume sells or not. People will stretch if they know it's worth it.

Corolla sportivo's were going for $45K'ish range so I would not surprise me if the 86 was in that range. All this talk about mid 35K range is just marketing spin to get more ppl considering it........then on realise the price will cull that interest down.

The more I think about it, the more a 40k price tag is starting to kind of get me down a bit. Main problem is my situation... I've got 2 big dogs and a nearly-1-year-old daughter (yeah, at 25 it's a barrel of fun), and really this isn't the most practical vehicle.

Pros:
- Most of my driving is done without aforementioned baby and/or dogs. Commuting is where I'm at.
- I only have to take my daughter to daycare 3 days a week... isn't too bad considering they seemed to have kept a child seat in mind for the back seat (I literally went YES when I saw the early sales training leaks showing this).
- Girlfriend can inherit my Mazda Tribute, suitable to carrying the whole tribe.
- Given the crap fuel economy of the Tribute (seriously, 14L per 100km from a 3L V6 less than 10 years old? It's redonkulous!) I'll probably save $30/week by going to the 86.

Cons:
- Even if I managed to hook Toyota Finance to give me a 5% interest rate, that's still nearly $190/wk on 40k over 5 years. Add an extra $30/wk to go with traditional bank finance. Even at 35k it's $165/wk @ 5%, or $190/wk @ 11% over 5 years (secured fix rate car loan from Commbank)
- Practicality is going to be an issue over the long term. I won't mind at first because racecar, but it might get old after a bit of time goes by.
- Servicing costs on a boxer are going to be substantially more expensive, and there won't be a whole lot I can do at home while it's under warranty.
- Probably won't have much money to do mods... maybe not such a bad thing.

Aww well, we'll see what happens. Hopefully we get some kind of idea on pricing in March-April.

ive heard so many different prices on the car, i think where going to be disappoint, hopefully not its like the (350z) when they came out, you where looking around 40k mark right ? until there where released and prices where around 60k for it.... plus a p-plate with 30k, (without mummys and daddys bank accout) desires to have one... back when i was 18 - 19 i had spent around 30-35 on a 99 wrx. banks are harder on the kids these day though

Subaru will be cheaper than the Toyota, and will be released in Aus earlier. Why will Subaru be cheaper? They have the WRX and they will not try to sell the BRZ for more than $43k (current WRX stock price). The problem is that Subaru will get a very few (maybe less than 200?) and Toyota will get around 1500 to 2000 tops. So the chances of actually receiving a BRZ seem pretty slim - they wont offer the GT. Toyota has pre-sold several hundred - perhaps even 1000 already. Toyota financial controllers will be testing the waters now to see how much Aussies are actually prepared to pay for it. The feedback will be the price setter. If very few people drop off the pre-sales list, then it will be up around $45 to $50 for sure. Personally I'm devastated because I cannot afford more than $40 (and that's more than its worth). Anyone wanna see a copy of the email from Toyota which says it will be $45 (GT) and $50 (GTS)?
