Those are the only ones worth anything anymore. From the 80s, I think, and on it became popular to collect and there's nothing super rare anymore. Maybe the treasure hunts but that's about it.

I generally just buy the ones I like. Mostly real cars, but occasionally I'll see a HW original that is neat. I think I have about 100-150 or so. A bunch from the early 90s when I started collecting them. Most are in the five packs or blister packs but a couple are open. I enjoy the open ones a lot more though. You can pick them up, look at the detail better, and get a better appreciation for them. Sometime soon here I'm going to buy a display case and tear them all open.

My son and I play smash up cars with them. He has a hierarchy regarding which car beats which. The AEM S2000 is his strongest car but he says the FR-S will beat it. I'm going to Walmart after dropping him off at Sunday school this morning

If it's a model I really got excited for then yeah the first one I find stays packaged, I get extras to open. I used to buy a bunch of different cars, now I'm picky as hell and buy duplicates of the same car.

Used to collect them years ago, but not anymore gave them to the kids. I do have 4 FR-S ones that I picked up, one of which was released from its packaging and sits in my office. I also picked up an AE-86 to go with it.

Only other one I own is a Chevy Avalanche that Chevy sent out as a promo item when the Avalanche was first put on sale.

Last weekends haul at Walmart turned out pretty good for my son:

Toyota AE86, Alpha Romeo 8C, 71 Dodge Demon, 68 Dodge Coronet Super B, custom 64 Ford Galaxy, A custom lo rider looking 50's possibly Mercury and a Chevelle.

He was happy that day!

He says the 8C is the smash up winner but his Pagani Huaryra from a previous haul is his top smash up car.
