Once a dealer hits their max they will get NOT additional cars until the next 6-month cycle. The example is if a dealer gets 6 units, and they have 25 orders, then they will only be able to fill 6 orders be it customer orders or for regular inventory. The other 19 will not be filled.

The timelibe seems to suggest the first cars will come out sometime in May, or June. I'd also guess that orders will be filled first. We do not know what color selections will be offered, nor how many a month maximum any one dealer will receieve regardlss of orders. Dealers that do not have customer orders can still request cars for their inventory. Subaru will assure all dealers receive cars, to prevent dealers from stacking up all their allocation and trying to receive it the first month.
Another dealership I've been talked to gave me a call and gave me the same story with a portal date of Feb. 27th. So unless he's stalking this forum or someone on here went and talked to that specific dealer, we've got confirmation.

hooray! Pricing should come shortly after the portal is opened as dealers will have a hard time placing orders without knowing the car price or any of the options they are spec'ing.

Ok my salesperson is saying the same thing. Feb 28th. (same dealer as OrbitalEllipses however different salesperson.) With that being said, she said that is a TENTATIVE date. She went on to mention the wrx was delayed 2 months after the initial portal date so emphasized this is NOT set in stone.

Technically not the same dealer, but same dealership group. I'm still dealing with Scion due to First 86 stuff, but the Scion dealership is on the same strip as the Subaru dealership.

Hmm I'm not very knowledgeable about these things so I was wonder about people who are thinking about leasing. Will they be able to lease? or do they have to reserve to lease too?

lease or buy should not make a difference.

I wouldn't expect great terms though. Residual value will likely be projected low making it an expensive lease.

Not to say it's not worth it, but there's risk in everything you decide - but stating that because rates are low you should finance cars "just because it's cheap" is a mentality that gets some people into serious financial trouble.

No doubt. people need to establish a budget and live within it. Anytime I hear of someone in financial trouble I can usually look around at their car and their house and the things in it and immediately figure out why. People who make half as much as my wife and I probably shouldn't have twice as many nice things.

For those of us that are responsible, educated adults though, financing is a good option even if you have cash to pay.

Likewise here, a dealer send me an email with the 27th as the date they will be able to order in the system, also the dealer said he won't take a deposit on an order till they get pricing and can have everything on paper to place the order for the car.

Starting to look like we can order around the 27th. The dealer also said it takes approx 6-12 weeks for the orders to come in. He said usually 6-8 weeks, but things have been odd lately with ordering.

No, the guy was clear that if, after the test drive, I decided not to buy the car - I would forfeit the thousand bucks. He was dumbfounded that I would even suggest such a notion.

Excitement aside -- nothing beats a test drive to really decide on a car purchase. Youtube videos and magazine articles are great but they're no replacement for me in the car getting a feel for it. Maybe for some of you this is not an issue but, in my world, I need to know the car is something I can enjoy every single day before I spend money on it.

I'm not risking $1,000 for a test-drive no way.

That is pure crazy talk. Talk to another sales rep at the dealership, or find another local dealership. Also many state laws require the deposit to be refundable. Not sure of your state, but you should check into it and by all means get it in writing. Good luck

Could be good news in case you were interested in a buyout though. I'd need to check with my accountant but I would maybe lease the car through my company to expense all the lease payments and then buy out the car myself at the end of the lease.

And yeah, that's insanity. That's essentially charging you $1000 to test drive a car. Everybody I talked to made it clear that if I decided not to purchase the car I'd get my deposit back.

Same here... I did put a deposit... on 3 conditions : 1- Price is alright with me 2- Test Drive 3- Availability of the model/trim/color I want
