Panasonic Audi system doesn't work when cold!

My screen was blank this morning at minus 20C which isn't cold for Canada.

Nothing wakes it up until suddenly you get the message on the screen:

"Normal temperature restored"

Er, Subaru , Newsflash minus 20 C IS normal temperature here.

Sad.

What's the "Panasonic Audi" system? Do you mean the Pioneer audio system?

Haha "Panasonic Audi"
But damn we live in the same area and I have a Panasonic Audi, and it was fine all day...Never noticed something like this.

If it was -20 when you got in your car in the morning, it was most likely another 10 or so degrees colder over night....Not saying it still isn't annoying but if I leave my iPhone in those temperatures it will also shutdown to prevent damage

Camaro's have the same issue. It's too cold for the LCD to function properly. Not much Subaru can do about it.

Edit: Standard operating temp range is 0 to 50 Celsius.
Call Pioneer and tell them they need to use a wide temp screen for you Canadians. Operating temp of -20 to 70 Celsius.

We do. You know park n ride parking lots can be quite entertaining on a Sunday after a snow storm.....

My dealer has checked with Subaru Central and they say this is normal and they're not doing anything about it. He's going to check with Scion dealership but I don't think the scion comes with this unit.

My Jaguar XF touch screen works fine at any temperature so far.

Ah progress. I remember push button memory radios as a huge technological ad advance.

Can you take a picture of of Pioneer head unit? I wonder why Pioneer would code that into one of their head units and not another one?

It's the same one in every BRZ Sport Tech trim. Photo in the brochure. I haven't figured out how to post photos yet.

Apparently I'm the only customer who's seen this message and complained so far.

Oh okay so not the same Pioneer Premium in the FR-S's then. Still, it doesn't make sense for Pioneer to make one of their head units shut down at a -20, and another slightly different model to work flawlessly at the same temperature in essentially the same car...

I've had an Avic930/940BT in my 4Runner for a couple of years and it's never worked when it goes down to the -25ish range. After you warm the car up, you have to shut the car off and turn it back on for it to work. It's a huge PITA, and I hate this nav unit. I'm cursed with having it in my truck and BRZ.

Yeah and Subaru made me pay extra for it, or maybe that was just for the HEATED SEATS!!!

These are great, and if only they offered a heated steering wheel as well I'd stop bitching about the stereo/nav unit altogether.

The steering wheel and shift knob are freezer-burn-level cold, especially these last couple of days. You just can't drive without gloves.

I hear u bro.

I drove my 97 SAAB Aero to Sundre yesterday. It took an hour before the handbrake handle reached a reasonable temperature.

I laugh at journalists who complain about "flimsy" plastic paddle shifters. I mean you want your finger to freeze to the metal shifter paddle?
