Theres an "and" between those terms

Direct airflow - In a traditional setup (manifold and single throttle body), the air would go through a filter, an intake tube, past the throttle body, and into a manifold where theres a chance that the air flow to each cylinder could be out of balance. Instead, it's past the throttle body and directly into the cylinder head. Of course, you could choose to run individual air filters on each throttle body, if you have the space.

Response - Due to the direct airflow, when you hit the throttle, there is no delay in power (assuming it's tuned correctly).

BMW M engines as well as every motorcycle engine use ITBs from the factory, and many race cars have them as well. They can provide more air - and faster - compared to a traditional setup (when set up properly).

From what folks are saying, there's a performance increase with these that would rival a supercharged or turbo'd engine without them. How so? What does one throttle body per cylinder do better that a single throttle body for all 4 cylinders does not do?
Imagine your g/f with 4 mouths....

You have to take into consideration she would always win in and arguement though!

ITB's are awesome. I used then on my ae86 before going turbo.

ITB's, exhaust, tune, I had my 3sge to 200whp. It sounded glorious.

I am still hoping someone makes some ITBs for the FA20. ITBs, ~272* cams, matching header and exhaust and a good tune would make for a fun car.

Would be nice to see more N/A stuff. FI is easy power, I'd think it is way easier to fab up a turbo kit for a shop car then Cams/ITB's.

Be amazing to see FA20 making K Series power (N/A).

Agreed. I love forced induction, but I hold a special place in my heart for NA power. The natural induction noises are amazing.

I think that a well built, 250-300whp NA FA20 would make this car amazing to drive around a road course. Couple that with about 200lbs worth of weight reduction, and that would make for a serious machine.

Random bump, but I believe the Wald FRS has an ITB setup now.

Needs ducting from the inlets either side of the bonnet catch. Could be done onto the underside of the bonnet.
