Dat sound - ITBs
I was inspired by the intake threads, and since no one has brought them up I will: ITBs. I know it's very early in the game but I was curious to see if anyone (Perrin, Accelerated Performance...Bueller?) had any plans for ITBs? I had them on my miata, and God do I miss them. I know they're expensive and if you're talking hp/$, it's not worth it, but the response and the noise...unggg . The goal of this car was a highly responsive, fun, NA machine - exactly what ITBs were meant for. I think it's a match made in heaven.
Just curious; what say you? Edit: because awesome: My car with it's previous owner, in its heyday http://www.youtube.com/watch?list=UU...&v=ZIlNC1hpnvo Subie with ITBs http://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PL...&v=ctyBOEk3L9Q |
The problem I see with ITBs in some areas is the tuning requirements. It would be hard to be efficient in an area that sees so much weather change
|
If you're running a standalone, it's not a problem. We don't have quite the weather fluctuations in the NW like you guys get in TX, but that isn't a big obstacle.

8 injectors, quad AVCS, there's a few decently priced standalones that can do it for under $2.5K for the ECU with all functions enabled.

yep, or it's equivalent G4 Xtreme or the Adaptronic E1280S
I run the V44, V88 and G4 Extreme on my various cars |

I'm a ViPEC distributor, and none of them run Direct Injection as of yet. I'm curious though, why have 3 different but similar EMS to run your various cars when one V88 can do them all in your case? It's not like you're going to drive all 3 at the same time right? We have one V88 powering several shop cars with different harnesses, and my personal 'fleet' of AEs and the like are running off a single V44, one car at a time. :) Additionally, if you're suggesting that the V88 only does the sequential point injection, then the stock ECU will still have to run the DI portion right? How's that going to work? Or are you just going to not run DI at all? Regards, |

I can afford to purchase multiple ECU's and I dont want to be pulling my different cars apart when I want to drive them...
I've got a v88 running the vvti 2jzgte in my manual mx83, v44 in my SF5 with built EJ257, G4 Xtreme running a turbocharged standard compression 2zzge in my ae82 sedan. I've got a spare v44 I use when developing plug-in adapters for different cars. For simplicity I'd setup an FA20 with the port injectors first with a set of quads, then work out the direct injection after it's running nicely and all the quirks with the throttle linkages etc are figured out. |
ITBs would be the only performance item to turn me away from the supercharger. i have always loved ITBs and have had the opportunity to drive a few itb cars and i have always wanted one of my own. The power response and sounds are just amazing with any car let alone a boxer engine! I would be very interested in a kit..... but if it does happen im sure we wont see it for a while. I look forward to learning more about itb setups through this thread. time to sit back and read:)

That roller barrel ITB setup on the STI you linked never actually got finished; there's a thread over at NASIOC about it (if you search hard enough).

ITB? Where I can learn about it?
