In their embargoed briefings prior to today's release Ford refused to give weight figures, talking instead about " increased content" - much as the Vette folks did with the C7 release. Edmunds expects this is code for about a 100 pound gain in weight. Also the dimensions are about identical to the old car - none of the rumoured shrinkage showed up.

Unfortuantely the weight and size of this new Mustang take it out of consideration for me - the current Stang felt like a truck when I sat in it last year.

I think it looks like a Mustang... Oddly enough I believe all the comments on Jalopnik I saw that compared it to the 86 were saying that, "Yeah, the BRZ/FR-S will have to have a power bump to compete with this..." It appears those people just don't understand the thinking behind the 86 and what makes it the great car it is...

It's like some sort of ugly-child between the Fusion, Taurus and Mustang.

I don't understand why people even bother reading Jalopnik. The sooner you stop giving them hits, the faster they'll go away.

I dunno man, I like it. It looks slimmed down, low and aggressive. I thought the previous gen mustang was a bit of an elephant.

Plus it's got a turbo-four as factory engine option, something the 86 will never get

Crub weight will still be 3300-3400lbs, at the least.

Not going to compete with the 86.

Come on people its a MUSTANG, nobody really likes the plain and simple ones, even the GT needs some kind of california special body kit. Throw some wheels, a little wing, and a lip kit on it and i think it'll look alright.

The current gent look ways better. It is a mustang when you see it on the road. This...I may yell..Taurus

I think a lot of people will hate the new mustang....weird....

Retro is good, the rear is good, but the front is modernized from a Taurus...like a Taurus Face lift.

They simply designed the rear....blend the retro and the modern look together

Then they slap Taurus face on it.....

Oh and this is the v8 5.0.

Where are my Rear brake Vents ???

Kept staring at the car trying to think what it reminded me of and I think its a cross between the taurus or most def the fusion. The front is good until you see the rear, it looks very stretched and elongated. Damn shame.

I never said it did, but people are going to cross-shop with the 86 and you know it.

Absolutely, as the price range is there, same Coupe and 4 seats

I would not buy one of the new Mustang...failed exterior design, the Twin is way better just by look alone

By those who lack the ability to do research, or are too ignorant to recognize the 86 and Mustang are two completely different cars in two completely different classes.

I guess cost is the only fair ground for comparison, beats me.

Huh...?

Comes with a 2.3 Ecoboost engine, it's a direct competitor.
