Lots of maybes here.

I would buy one IF it looked like that
AND
It had a new engine in the 2015 model with 2.5L NA and 250+ hp.

again you are comparing used to new cars. like someone pointed out you are getting a USED car.
I always include USED cars into the mix and for comparison.

For example,

My dad was looking for a new "fun" car and considered lots of cars, E92 m3's etc..

I looked at cars in a similar price range and he scored his 2006 Aston Martin V8 Vantage for half...say again...half what the sticker cost was. It had all the options exactly how he wanted. It was also less expensive than a new E92 M3 btw.

*The car had 3,000 miles on it and was essentially brand new. It was owned by a doctor who traded it in to buy a bigger house.

I will never understand why some people only consider new cars. Except for special editions and ultra rare cars etc...

It looks almost identical to this:

I would rather have a more desirable "used" car than a new car I don't want at all.

Why would anyone want a four-door version of a car that was intended to be a cheap, fun 2-door sporty coupe? The fact that the car is lightweight and has incredible driving feel is what makes it desirable.

If Scion can replicate that in a 4-door, then I applaud them lol

Sorry for getting somewhat off-topic there

You don't slap 4 doors on a car and call it a day.

There is a large R&D process which the Toyota and Subaru would have to go through in order to provide the car with similar dynamics to that of the coupe, which will involve heavily accounting for the increased weight and cost a lot of money. Money, which I severely doubt, would be made up in revenue from sales of that specific variation.

I still say don't do it. This car should not spawn a bunch of damn look a likes. It should not be made heavier either. This will sell for about 3-4 months and then people will be questioning why the hell they bought it.

I do the same thing. I always compare to used cars. I can get a BMW 335i for the same price as a BRZ with low miles. 370z is about $5k less on the used market for a clean one. I couldn't care less if it has been owned. That actually is more appealing since you save thousands. As long as it checks out and has no issues (including salvage, I don't do salvage) then it's golden!

from all the rumors and what not, it says they will just stretch the car by like 3 inches or so. also the 2015 model is said to get a new 2.5 putting out 250hp. one would think this would also be used in the sedan. everyone seems to be acting if toyota would have to some how redesign the whole car from the ground up to make a sedan version. yes they would have to go back to the engineering department but i still dont think it would cost them that much to make a 4 door version.

thats nice and all but some people are the market for new cars. if everyone wanted a used car than automakers would be out of business.

im not saying that used cars may or may not be a better buy. what i am saying is that comparing new to use isn't really fair. and in some cases buying used cost more than new

the proportions are just off; the idea of this just dilutes the purpose of the car to me. i have serious doubts it would happen - there are better platforms for something like this. isn't toyota talking about bookending the gt86 with smaller and larger variants anyway? i know i read that somewhere.

When you are an automaker you kinda want to sell more copies of everything. So whatever it takes to put more 86/FR-S on the roads more power to Toyota.

If they do get built and thats a big if, but if you do not like a sedan, drop-top, or wagon/shooting brake than you don't have to buy one. I'm sure other people would like to have one.

In this kind of situation yes, buying new was the right thing to do:

I agree with the new vs. old not being fair...but when I buy cars, I don't look for the "fair" deal for the seller.

Anyways, carry on

In my opinion building a 4dr undermines the credibility of the 2dr model. A major part of the twin's appeal is that it is a affordable sports car, more specifically a purpose built sports car. The car was designed this way from the ground up, unlike civic si, or ford st models, which are simply sporty versions of family econoboxes.

I would like my car less if I knew there was a 4dr sedan version driving around somewhere...
