I think my biggest pet peeve in auto photography is excessive use of HDR. Ironically, I haven't shot a single shot of my fr-s yet. Probably because it's still too stock for me to enjoy shooting it.

I shoot on a 5d mk2, and look forward to getting into auto photography. I mostly do landscape stuff. Any pointers?

I agree, especially over the top tone mapping. I don't mind using it to make the best of bad lighting (the shot I posted of the NSX concept is an HDR from different exposures, but tone mapped to look more realistic) or occasionally, but when every shot is over the top it gets old, but that's just my take on it.

I find that a longer zoom is really helpful if you have the room, that way you can position yourself well out of the reflections but still get a nice tight shot of the car. Depending on the colour of the car, and the angle of the shot it can be VERY hard to keep yourself out of the reflections.

A polarizer can help too, but you'll never kill all the reflections because of all the curves/angles on a car.

make note of the angles you like that others use, people usually shoot from standing up, but if you look at the photos you like best, you'll see that they require the photographer to either get really high up or get down on their knees or similar

also stepping further back and using longer focal lengths, in my opinon, tends to create higher quality photos because the lines are less distorted. (so min 50-60mm)

Thanks for the helpful tips y'all. I just recently sold my glorious 80-200mm f/2.8 L lens, sounds like it could have been great for auto photography I never thought about my reflection in the cars!!

Funny thing about this... I completely forgot how much focus i used to put into avoiding my own reflection. I started getting heavy into flash photography which resulted in no reflections as I would overpower with direct lighting. That or I typically shot with a wider view and smaller subject when I started shooting for print as to make room for text originally. I guess I used to focus on avoiding my reflection so much that the angles i use and distance i shoot from are just out of habit and i never show up any more.

This will be a picture heavy post. First one is the man/camera behind the pictures. I included pictures of the truck I traded in for the BRZ. Caon T3i, 15-55mm lens and 55-250mm lens.

My dog when he was 8 weeks old (10.5 months now though) and my truck
