Driving above 6k rpm
I've been concerned about people's frying the seals off the direct injectors. I'm on a stock tune. Do I run a risk of damaging the DI seals if shift above 6k redline?

edit (by myself) - stand by for my comment where I don't know what I'm talking about

Concerning the nurburgring automatics which had the DI seal failures, I assume they might have run against rev limiter before shifting and causing damage. If there's some engineering-speak I could get behind this it might turn into an actual conversation per the DO's and Don'ts of redlining; inviting input on this discussion. Well, radroach, I reckon this DI seal thing is a controversial subject.
I suggest you slam this into your computers google screen and you can read up till you're as confused as I am .... ![]() site:ft86club.com DI seals As for me, I don't track my car ..... plus I don't feel the need to shift real fast in the higher gears, so as the rpm don't drop down below 4.500 before I give er the gas in the next gear. Hell, I just want to enjoy my car ..... if it blows apart due to some mechanical defect ..... I'll just get another car .... I'm not married to this sucker...... ![]() humfrz |

The boxer is a fairly beefy engine. Except for mishaps you should be fine.

![]() I'd also imagine that in retired land that another GT86 would just be noise on portfolio return. That said, I too, plan to just drive this car as seems fit and will buy another if I need to. |

From what I've read about the DI failure issue, it seems like the people who had that problem were tracking their cars. When racing on a track, you're doing more than just redlining through gears; you're keeping the rpm's high, and through certain parts of a track, likely keeping the car around 7,000 rpm's for an extended period of time before upshifting or heel-toe downshifting.
Simply redlining and then upshifting doesn't appear to be the cause. Constant on the throttle and off the throttle (throttle modulation between WOT and partial throttle) at high rpm's for extended periods of time appears to be the culprit... i.e track conditions.
