What's Going on Between Toyota & Subaru on the Convertible Version of the 86/FR-S/BRZ

Since Toyota wants the convertible so badly, Subaru should agree to build the convertible for Toyota with the stipulation to allow Subaru to build turbo BRZs.

Convertible FRS will most likely win over the BRZ Turbo simply due to price point. There's no feasible way an OEM BRZ Turbo option will be under $35k+.

Even the existing WRX at the same price point as an FRS has a turbo and AWD, yet the FRS has outsold the WRX so far in 2013. (not the Impreza as a whole, just the WRX).

FRS YTD 2013: 16000
WRX YTD 2013: 14782

Add in the BRZ sales the Twins are doing quite well. It makes sense that an OEM would want to expand the brand but the trick is going after the low hanging fruit and frankly adding $10k to the price point (which is what it would take) to add Forced Induction is not "low hanging fruit". A convertible, Sedan or shooting brake at the existing price point absolutely is.

Upon rechecking the numbers are definitely better than I thought they would be at this point in the year. Unfortunately other similarly priced sports cars are still stomping us like the v6 mustang at 70k and the gee coupe (forum info could not find corporate info) is at around 30k. Toyota. After working for an automaker the average goal is 50k sold a year in north America... Unless it's a truck then 250k a year in north America. We are falling short of the goal which has been the fate of so many cool sports cars in the past. The Miata is also feeling the strain with sales down from previous years. Don't get me wrong I love the car and I want to seem them around for a good long time I just do not think that people should be upset that someone else in their neighborhood has one because they wanted to have the only one. I wave to everyone I see in another one doesn't matter if it's a little old lady or a guy in his mid 20's.

i understand what u are saying. but import sport cars (Z, Miata, and ect) have never sold in huge numbers like the mustang. but for an import the frs is doing pretty well.

Now we all know the reason for not having a factory turbo frs/brz is cuz subaru.........not wanting something that could eat their own WRX/Sti markets. =/

How many of those Mustangs go to Hertz or Avis?
Fleet sales are a big part of the equation for them (not so much the Twins).

That being said - there's no denying the Mustang is a popular car
