i think one thing that is being lost in the conversation here is that the people who in the end pay for all of this more often than not don't even know enough to care about what a maf sensor does, or what load is or how it is calculated. they don't care how easy a piece of software makes tuning their car. it's a job their paying someone else to do, and they care about the end result. they're paying for the result.
as far as the technicalities of which system is capable of providing the best tune, i have no idea. i'm sure ecutek has some advantage, or at least for the price it damn well should. as someone who tunes their own car i'd love to try it out if they ever do decide to open it up to the masses. this talk about ecutek being the 'only way' to do anything or somehow required to run fi is just bs though. there are two cars in the world with my exact setup, one is tuned with ecutek and the other is tuned with brzedit. i've seen logs from the ecutek car, and i assure you that car isn't running nearly as well as my 'home brew' brzedit-tuned car. his iam was 0.06 in the log i saw lol. anyone who thinks you can't make a car run well with fi on brzedit/romraider/oft is welcome to take a spin in mine and see for yourself. the last turbo/ecutek owner that rode in it, first words out of their mouth were 'wow, that's way smoother than mine'. |

As far as forced induction tuning, there are maps in EcuTeK Custom Mapping that I do use to offer a better tune to my customers that is not offered in any other system at the moment. And they are important to the reliability of the vehicle, therefore I need to use EcuTeK. As the question was asked, can you tune with other systems? Of course I will not say you can not, I just do not prefer anything else. I have tried and reviewed the other options, yes. Are there any features that stand out (in other avenues) from EcuTeK that I would prefer? Currently no, not in this market. Also as a long time tuner of EcuTeK, for my personal business reasons the support is there, every day and night, not only by the company itself but the tuners that also use EcuTeK. So this offers me the ability to tune a customers vehicle and offer the level of support I NEED to be able to deliver. |

There are plenty of high power k-series engines that use SD, and I've had the opportunity to learn tuning on SD cars. Nothing wrong with SD and excellent results were achieved.
Also of note, they were ONLY SD cars and they did very well stock, turbo, supercharged..... Imo MAF at partial and MAP while in boost sounds good to me... and we have both sensors there for our convenience! If your compensation tables are set up correctly there is no reason for MAF to be any better over SD with altitude changes, temp changes, etc. IMO. So about that ecutek announcement.....

K, I've went through few pages & cleaned up few.
Please keep it on-topic w most of all DISCUSS ONLY YOUR OWN PRODUCT/SERVICE AND DO NOT COMMENT ON OTHER TUNERS OR THEIR PRODUCTS. If we (mods & admins) get another report about it, I have to do temp ban. You know who you are I'm talking bout, so PLEASE DON'T MAKE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON ROUGH. |

I hope that was somehow an em-powering experience for you... Shiv speaks to the main problem with the ECUTek Experience, and the reason alot of the tuners I have spoken with are so Excited about the OFT and ECUflash developments, They cannot provide a service to their customers at a reasonable price point because the "product" they use to tune eats up most of the price point, Tuners (usually) don't want all of your money, they want to provide a good service at a fair price, and with the exceedingly high price point ECUTek demands, that means they have to work for peanuts if they are to spend the amount of time necessary to properly tune each customer's car. I know of one tuner local to me who is a "ECUTek Master tuner" who won't tune a BRZ/FRS if it is N/A simply because the cost to the customer to do so is unfair, he is one of the Tuners who want to be able to be proud of every tune he sells. Not sell a thousand tunes and hope they all kinda work OK. Shiv in no way bashed the product's capabilities, clarifying that it is an issue of the tuner not the software that caused the drivability issues, since no tuners were named or blamed for the haphazard tuning, I believe his post stands as a true warning to what type of tuning experience you should seek to avoid. I can think of no-better place to air such concerns than a Thread which has the attention of ECUTek themselves, when we are on the (eternal) cusp of some large announcement. It is only fair that the people who run the company know (honestly) what the single largest complaint from their own "master tuners" is... and no you won't hear (publicly) any of the "Master Tuners" say this, as they have business interests to protect and currently, ECUTek is the most stable and available platform for tuning our beloved cars. If ECUTek really wants to support and not feed off our community they will bring the pricepoint down to a level that is feasible for the offerings of the product, show some appreciation for the people selling and tuning the product, and hopefully, rethink their current assignment of the label "Master Tuner" to any haphazard SCHMUCK that can muster up enough money for the initial buy-in... Report away, I'm not a vendor...just a run of the mill troll.

This is now a completely useless thread. The best intelligent discussion about tuning in months and it gets deleted. I really hoped that with the new developments from EcuTek that the Master Tuners and EcuTek themselves would have a bigger presence on these forums allowing for more discussion and competition between tuning platforms. I am seriously disappointed.
