Got of early, heading to get Tyler and go home maybe even get lunch and then Whack... car in front of me throws a rock at my windshield. Nice crack that is over a dollar bill in length.... great.

I have never dealt with this before other than just sucking it up and replacing it myself. With the Dash Cam I caught all of it including the license plate of the vehicle that threw the rock (company vehicle). Normally I would just shrug and handle the 180 replacement... except our windshields are 345.00......

Has anyone dealt with this before and had any luck?

I did once.... but it was because it was a dump truck transporting gravel. They hit a bump and something broke and it started spitting out large chunks of gravel at ~50MPH. I was a good 5-10 car lengths behind him. Destroyed the windshield, and then smothered the front end with tiny dots on the hood bumper and fenders.

I had to fight them for a bit until they saw the car, then their insurance just paid to repaint it all.

The reality is there are regulations for vehicles for mud flaps etc to prevent extreme cases of this happening. They were not going to pay until i showed a picture of the left mudflap missing, and the gravel literally pouring on the wheel... which was SHOOTING the rocks at me.

So unless it was a large truck without mud flaps, I wouldn't bother. Call your insurance and add glass coverage, wait 60 days, file a claim.

Hope you have glass insurance on your policy. Safelight Autoglass (sp?) are the folks to call ASAP. If it's not too big, they can fix it on site without having to do a a replacement. If it's spider-lined, they'll have to replace.

But if your glass is insured, it's like a normal claim, especially since you have the license plate of the vehicle which did it to you.

From what I know, the person that kicked up the rock has no responsibility. It's all on your own ins co policy. I go thru about 1 windshield every year or so.

Not if it's a company construction vehicle that is missing mudflaps

Mudflap's is the key. Most construction vehicle have warnings on the back too. The bad part is I got a rock chip from another FRS. It's not his fault. I'm waiting for it to get bigger before I get a new windshield. I have at least 100 pits in it to. My entire front end is beat to hell from commuting on the 202 every day

The time it happened to my WRX, it was a construction vehicle but I didn't get the plates. Pitted that windshield good, too. Solid rock, not mere gravel. Hit the asphalt, bounced & beelined into my windshield hard.

Whether or not the construction vehicle has mud flaps makes no difference it is still considered a road hazard and the truck has no responsibility.

I had it happen the other day driving to work. I was in the left lane and a minivan in the right. a good 20ft worth of distance and he kicked up the right rock in a construction zone while driving extremely aggressively and nailed my a-pilar. Killed the paint and brought it down to the metal

Years ago in my old truck, I was on the 101 in traffic and had a vehicle kick up a large brick-sized object at 70mph into the windshield..my slight ability to swerve and react saved me, with what little room I had..
