Just wanted to put this out to defend myself from any other attacks . I'm in the IT field. I live in a condo. I'm 39. I used to dabble in auto mechanics. With the help of friends, I restored a '67 GTO 20 or so years ago. I also got into modding 4WD's (also with the help of friends). I am not a mechanic. I am intimidated by modern vehicles, because I don't understand them. I love my FR-S, and I just want to make it even more fun to drive. I am an adrenaline junkie. I put a hitch on my FR-S so I could tow my dual sport motorcycle. I don't want to do any mods to my FR-S, because I'm not qualified, and I don't have the time to become qualified. I just want to enjoy driving it, and I'd like to spend a little money to make it more fun.

def,

but man, to think i was looking at it back at the start of this year at <$15 a coin and decided not to dabble because the dedicated mining machines were on the verge of coming out and the coin/kw didn't make sense,

the bigger mistake was just not buying a pile.

oh well hindsight is a bitch

I suspect there are plenty of people here in the same boat, myself included.

All my knowledge of upgrades/mods come from research here/internet, from friends or people at the track. I couldn't install a new CAI to save my life, luckily I can afford to pay someone else to do it.

I'd rather spend my weekend at the track instead of in my driveway trying to work the kinks out of a new turbo kit anyway.

If I had $10k to blow I would save it until I had enough for the ls3 swap.

My wife has the ls3 swap while I went for a super charger... it is no comparison the ls3 is superior in every way. but we had a crashed corvette with less miles on it than her brz which not everyone has so it was an easy choice for us a $16k undertaking for others. I think it is great that people strive to make their cars better and in no way encourage the swap unless they a fully prepared for the time and money that it requires. At the same time no force induction can come close to an ls3 swap we only gained 67lbs in exchange for 425hp.

Fully built low compression motor with a gt3076r turbo kit. I'm sure that's doable with 10k.

Just got word from the local tuner who works on my car. Their 86 with a HKS S/C was putting out 246rwhp on their dyno(which reads kinda low - STOCK car read 130rwhp.. My car with N/A mods read 168hp), anyway.. its a gain of 116+ rwhp all up with mods.

Mod list on that car:
HKS GT S/C
HKS EL Headers
Locally made frontpipe
HKS Spec-L catback

Budget of that would be slightly over $10k, but you can probably remove the frontpipe/catback and get a local/custom equivalent(you'd have to go custom anyway as FI's need 2.75in or bigger)
So all you'd really need would be:
- HKS GT S/C
- HKS 4-2-1 Headers
- MOTIV Overpipe
- Locally made frontpipe(with HFC) and cat-back
- A tune.

BTW, it made that figure of 246 WITH the restrictor plate in place.

Why are people suggesting turbo kits and headers? The turbo kits include headers and the other headers are most likely not compatible.

I would.

1/ pay mortgage
2/ pay bill
3/ trade the under powered car in for a faster one, fe Evo, Porsche, Sti.
4/ give it to the in laws

Modding a car is just ruining it resell value. Beside, it is useless on the street.

Modding a car is good in a way that you are paying some one for labor. That someone can support their family with it. Do anything you want. Have fun
