Not sure if anyone would know but which filter would be better the Japan TRD filter or the USA TRD filter???

Going by the two photos in this thread, the material used on the USA one looks better to me... Would I be right?

Not too worried about the hp gains, just want some more engin noise with the stock box

based on the picture above, that is still un-oiled.

Yeah it looks that way to me...

I might just go the K&N 33-2300. Apparently they fit right in.

I would go for K&N gain near 5+/- whp @ $40 or Works 10+/-whp @ $100 more worth it !

I heard k and n makes the TRD filter. and when you goggle image one next to the other, they are scary identical. same amount of pleats and oiled cotton too. I would imagine the TRD performs just as well as the k and n

LOL sorry bro but a drop in filter is the best mod you can do if you want to modify your air box. Look for the Dsport article on intakes every intake got very little gains and the ones that did do well didnt do any better than a drop in filter.

Drop in filters get 5-6 whp. The Greddy/AFE and either the Blitz intakes did the best of all the intakes tested and they didnt perform better than a drop in filter. Zeta's silicone tube and drop in air filter got like 6-7 whp, a slight bump from adding the intake tube. Perrins intake tube has a smoother bend, rather than a 90 degree bend and is a lot nicer than the Zeta.

CAIs like the Perrin got 5~ whp, with the Perrin silicone tube it will get a slight bump in whp but nothing too crazy and the FA20 got 10 whp but it leans out the AFR to get those gains like the INJEN intake which isnt good for your engine long term unless if you get a tune. Drop in filter is the cheapest and best route to go and if you want you can also get a Perrin Silicone Intake Tube and HKS intake duct(350-400 bucks for all 3) and it will outperform any other intake in its price range of 300-450 dollars(AFE/Greddy, Perrin CAI, AEM, TRD) without leaning out the AFR's.

Drift-Office or Speedfactory did a dyno on 3 after market drop ins for this car and all of them got 5-6 WHP. Drift-Office did a dyno with the Zeta silicone tube/zeta drop in filter and it got 6-7 whp.

Anyone who replaces the stock air box with an intake box that sits in the engine bay and are hoping for good power gains are doing it way wrong. Those intakes are the most prone to heat soak. The oem air box is already well designed. Shouldnt mess with something that already works good. If you just have to get an intake because you like the sound, go with the Perrin CAI with there intake tube or FA20club CAI if you decide to get a tune in the future.

anyone who has this installed see a bit of the red polyurethane border peeking out of the airbox a little bit? not substantially to where the airbox cant close and seal, but with the airbox properly closed and sealed do you still have a little bit of red peeking out?

Any noticeable difference in engine sound? I understand that it's just a filter, but some people are saying it gives a slight lower growl.

If you want some induction growl from the stock intake, remove the resonators, makes a huge difference. Just be sure you seal the holes left behind tho so the engine isn't ingesting unmetered air.

Well wanted to know if the trd one makes a different sound as well, but this helps too.
