99% done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alright guys, so I finally have a few days off to get back to this install. Sorry for the delay; I have been busy with work and some personal relationship BS, but anyways, I are super close in the compleation with the GT86 swap. Thank you to everybody who has been following this build and people who interested in doing this; the same or not :happy0180:
I started the first mod on 7/14 I started this part of the mod on Sunday 8/26 @ 9PM I had my friend make me a few decals that read MODE, SPEED and TEMP and I used the decals on the back plastic rectangle piece that (comes with the unit) goes behind the windows in the GT86 climate unit. Although I was happy with the decals, they were a little too small around the sides so I used black electrical tape to block out the transparent rectangle. I used a 15 SMD red LED strip that runs angled on the back of the inside rectangle. I used a piece of cardboard and some tinfoil to act as a bracket and a reflector so as much light as possible would shine. Needless to say I was very blown away by the result! So after I had the lables and LED done, it was time for the switches. I used 5 SPST 12V rocker switches that have a red LED built in so that when the switch is on, the red LED could go on as well. Huge should out to @lbroskee for helping me via instagram; totally wish you could have helped me in person but you really did guide me in the right direction! I owe you a beer :happy0180: I found the rocker switches off eBay and at first was unsure if they would fit; however, They fit perfect! I can push hard on the switch and it wont fall back into the climate unit, however if I was pushing from the inside out, it would pop off (cool!) the switches are snug and stable. more modding...#StayModding This part took over 2 hours to do; once I had the switches in, I needed to find a way to cover the empty space that the rocker switches couldn't fill. So what did I do? lol I went back to the stock AC panel that came in my FRS and cut 5 plastic housing sides that the stock controls that used to clip into. Here is a picture of the small size I had to cut from what I originally cut. I also show what sides I had to cut to do this. With sandpaper and a pair of wire cutters, I made five black plastic "plates" that cover the empty space under the rocker panels. I eventually want to use the other side of the stock AC panel and use the "T" shape plastic to use for the outside; It would look pretty cool IMO At this point it was 5am on Monday morning 8/27 and it was time to go outside to work inside the car; I am from New England and the morning is one of my favorite parts of my day so I was happy to chill in my car, play some music, get lost/clear my head from some BS and get going on this install. I hooked up the AC control (AKA TEMP) to the stock harness and used the wires that Adam extended for me. I also attached wires to the rocker switches and used wire connectors (butt connectors?) to connect from the controls to the rocker switch. I put the switch for AC on the farthest right port. IE: Stock harness>Stock AC Control>wires-butt connectors-wires>Rocker Switch I tapped into two unused harnesses behind the stock AC unit that were taped up and never used. I found a power wire and taped into that to run the LED on the AC Switch. Next I did the inner circulation control (aka MODE). Same story as the AC control. This switch is in the middle of the 5 rocker switch panel. I didn't hook up the red LED power wire because I still need to install the rear defroster switch and Adam needs to extend the wires on it. This is important because the rear defroter switch is on the fan speed knob; with out this knob, I can not coltrol the unit ON or OFF; so even though I have the AC switch ON, if the fan speed knob is OFF (or 0) it will not turn on and the LED will not go on, on the rocker switch (or switches)...I hope this makes sense. The last thing I could do was tap the red LED strip behind the decals into a power wire, however I did not do this because I need to find a way to tap into the clocks power, so when I put the lights on (first and second clock for the outside lights on the stock) I want the MODE, SPEED and TEMP panel to illumniate. This is also a good idea because I could dim the panel light just like the dash, clock and radio. Cool! ![]() For power for the red LED strip, I used a 9V battery and that is currently powering it until I find a good wire to tap into; It will be good for the install to be 100% functional with the dim rotating switch, too. IMO I reassembled everything. Started the car. Flipped on the AC. Flipped on the inner circulation. and....wow...it all worked. I can actually start to see the end of the tunnel to this two month custom build. I know I have a few more things to do, but I am very close to finishing. I just need to talk to Adam and see if he can help me with the final switch and some power wires. Maybe you guys can help me too!? OH. I also used a MT boot to replace my AT boot to cover the anoyying PRND panel; Now the only light in my car is pretty much red ![]() ![]() :happy0180:I ended up going to bed at 10AM 8/27. I hope you guys like this as much as I do. I tried to take as many pictures as I could. I did alot of videos too on Instagram; AG3NT_5carfac3_86 And HUGE thanks to @Whoaitsallen @lbroskee and @ronnBOi720 This was a night time shot tonight at 11PM 8/27 untill then, cheers! :happy0180: Last edited by AG3NT_5CARFAC3; 08-27-2013 at 07:33 AM. UPDATE: Mode, Speed and Temp LEDs hooked up...FOR GOOD
Quick update:
I now dont have to run the LED Mode, Speed and Temp off of an exturnal batter; I hooked it up to the on/off power wires from where the Traction on/off buttons are. It also controls the dim switch as seen in this video... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK79PuJvowA"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK79PuJvowA[/ame] Next and final thing it to get the rear defroster hooked up, and then, BOOM. It will be 100%. I have no idea when this will happen, however. I need by buddy Adam to help me with this part. Hopfully soon because its going to snow here tomorrow (I'm from Boston) Untill then, Philip

really happy with how far I have come. Hopefully soon I will have the rear defroster done as well and then be done.I'm sure some people are saying "how can you tell what temp or what mode the fan is on if there is no display/images?". This is a good point; I can't. I just memorized the order of the fan position selector...speed of the fan is easy to understand....and the temp is easy to understand too; far left is cold;far right is hot and the 3 switches (AC, Rear Defroster and inner circulation are all in the same spots as the stock climate unit. As for making you a kit,; Sure! That can be arranged haha I would need to price everything out. I want to say I paid close to $400 for everything for my install.
