BRZ -> FRS Climate Controls Retrofit?
So I really wanted to get the dual climate in my FR-S. It seems that the parts should be order-able through Subaru to be fitted with OEM quality into the FR-S.
Anyone have potentially relevant diagrams and part numbers for the dual climate control options? It was a slight loss coming from an A3, but the wifey runs in a completely different world of temperature than me... |

This question has been asked about forty times already. I was one of those people... lol Just check one of the other posts. it seems like they will not be compatible due to the fact that the FR-S has no dual climate control and most likely wont work. But again check some of the other posts. You might get lucky and prove me wrong. I kinda gave up on that idea. Now I just care about BRZ headlights in an FR-S

Bummer.. I figured it'd have been asked a million times already. Just didn't see it. I shall search again.
The other aspect is that the JDM gt-86 has the dual climate control, so it keeps me hopeful. It might be expensive as hell to do it, but it may be possible... Quote:

It would more than likely just be easier to buy a BRZ limited and then convert is to an FR-S.

It takes hellova a lot more time, $ & effort to install DCC into FR-S. It's better spent extra $2~$3k spending on BRZ |

Regardless, changing out bumper, lights, suspension is probably "easier" but I don't think DCC should be so much of a pita that it would be more effort than it is worth. From what I can think of... Climate Control Unit Temp Sensors Different piping assembly Front Button/Dash Assembly Appropriate Wiring harnesses As far as searching has gone, I haven't really come upon any discussions that go into the details of why DCC into the FR-S is not worth the trouble. IMHO, DCC sounds a lot less worse than suspension, bumper + paint & matching & non-original VIN body-part + lights... |

BUT that shouldn't stop you from doing it. If you actually do, please do some write-up, so we know what, how, & $ to do it. |

I'll have to look into it. Anyone know someone with access to parts diagrams? Would be a much simpler task to critique with access to that information

If the chief engineer is saying that it's not worth the effort of getting DCC, then I'd presume that the effort required would be closer to the former option... I called a local subaru dealer and they stated that they wouldn't have the parts diagrams for another 2-4 weeks... Any other Subaru dealer guys with access/information? |

Found someone who did it for a Mk5 VW. Looks like a complete dash tear apart is needed for the dub. I bet similar will be needed for the FRS.

The problem that no one has mentioned is that Subaru (who builds this car) typically makes different harnesses for different options. I had an 08 Forester XT Sports, which I wanted to add heated seats, which wasn't an option. The harnesses aren't there. I also wanted to add heated mirrors. Harness wasn't there.
So it's highly likely that you would have to completely swap the harness (THE WHOLE HARNESS, everything in the cabin) to swap over the Auto Climate Control. |
