Looks like the Beatrush front bar buckled/collapsed on the sides, not the front. Odd. I'm assuming the car didn't take a direct frontal hit if the I/C and oil cooler are relatively intact. Not sure if even the stock bar would've helped that.

Took me forever to find it on Google maps, but I think it happened around here:
https://www.google.com/maps/preview#...MG1g!2e0&fid=5 3 lane highway, doesn't look curvy at all. I have a hard time imagining how that went wrong enough for him to jump that guard rail. |

But if it was, I could see how it happened. 1/ wet road 2/ taking that curve from the left lane (inner diameter) 3/ pushed hard on the pedal for some passing power 4/ the extreme torque at the wheels, lost of traction, the car drifted toward the rail guard (outer diameter ) 5/ during this drift, paranoid kicked in (probably incoming cars from other lanes), instinctively let off the throttle, this made the wheels completely lose it grips, the car momentum pushed it further onto the guard rail 6/ highway speed, about 65mph, lost controlled car, drifting toward the rail with the car side, the biggest impact possible to the guard rail, probably pushed the rail down, the car bumped into the rail at it wheels, the momentum force continue pushing, the car was pushed into the air, rolling, landed, rolled toward the valley. All of those conditions made a disaster. When you started losing friction on your car, the car started drifting sideway, you keep on the throttle, even more so, the extra spinning torque will gain friction back, and over come the drift, so you get your control back, but this needs real life practice for real life situations. Especially with cars beside you.... Actually, in a 65mph drift....I never faced it...I have no idea. But if it was me, it would take my life as well, because experience told me that there is little to nothing to really gain back the control at that speed....unless god save...but that guard rail and the slope...are the real killers. If there was no slope, just a grass field, your chance to walk away is better. Most too often, on busy public road, if your car started going sideway, you are screwed....either due to oncoming traffics, or lost control of the car. Drive safe, do practices in the empty parking lot with cones, under all conditions, gravel, wet, dry, sandy, with traction control off. That is the perfect way to control these type of cars. Although, I have no recipe for a 65mph practice...but these should definitely help you to respect your car, the road conditions.....etc Last edited by Whitigir; 11-13-2013 at 11:04 PM. |

And, you're right. A lot of scenarios w/ bad luck and bad decisions could make it happen. (Wasn't using my imagination much when I wrote this.) |

Look at this wreck that happened a few days ago on the road I drive home from work. The black SUV was traveling the opposite side of the road (a straight portion, dry conditions), hit the guardrail, went airborne and decapitated the occupants of the black sedan when it landed on them. Things can spiral out of control rapidly. I doubt that guy thought he was going to kill 2 people that day. ![]() ![]() http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/...icle-1.1511568 |

Stupidity knows no bounds. I've personally seen an accident happen on a perfectly straight and fairly level stretch of the 401 highway that runs across Ontario. Guy spun out and twirled his way into the median. I was going Westbound, him Eastbound.
A co-worker of mine got into a moderate accident on the same highway. Some idiot in a BMW SUV was cutting in and out of lanes and clipped his rear right wheel while cutting behind him and rolled at least 5 times from his rear view mirror view. He himself barely managed to prevent a spin out and pulled out. The guy in the SUV lost four fingers somehow and the OPP had to stop the highway to look for them. No matter what you do, they always come out with a better upgraded idiot!

Because he's a moron? Also, breaking the rear end loose by punching it on wet pavement is not a "sick drift dude", it's called being out of control.

The original article said the passenger was still alive and flown to the hospital. Shocked anyone could have survived hitting a guardrail, multiple trees, and then plunging down a ravine.. Wonder if he survived?
EDIT: Wow, his best friend who was in the car with him lived: https://www.giveforward.com/fundrais...recovery-fund- Sad... |

Assuming this is actually the place, you can move up the street to just after where the on ramp comes in. You can see the guard rail has been replaced. If I had to guess, that angle from the on ramp caused the accident. The transfer of load from the front to the rear coupled with the lateral transfer put most of the load on the passenger rear tire. at 65mph at those angles at night... The guy could have been driving perfectly normal and potentially had the same situation. As you can see I'm giving the driver the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't doing anything stupid. We all like to say "this is why you don't drive like an asshat on public roads" etc., but it's all speculation. The guy that made it to the hospital, is the only one that knows what happened. I know that if my buddy as doing something reckless with me in the car, I'm getting him to pull over and let me out, I'm hoping others value their lives as much. There was a totaled BRZ at the local Subaru dealership when I went to buy oil and filter. I asked the guy what happened and his reply was that a woman with no experience driving a RWD got caught off guard making a left hand turn and spun out hitting a pole. A lot of owners come from cars that are FWD or AWD, rarely RWD considering the concept is almost dead with the exception of luxury brands. This coupled with horrid driver education requirements and you get idiot drivers. You all should check out Finland's driver education requirements. If not for the education, do it for entertainment. I'm a little jealous of those kids actually.
