Heaps of us have talked about it but I thought we should get a roll call of who is going turbo or supercharged on their 86 or BRZ and maybe a bit of info about your plans? If you are doing a swap or something feel free to chime in as well.

I've decided on an AVO turbo kit. I've actually made a decision to fully declare every mod on my car to both Toyota and the dept. of transport which will be a bit of a journey. I have had some great chats to engineers and found two good workshops, one is subaru/ecutek based and the other an IM240 dyno specialist. I also have had my dealership clarify that they are going to do their best to maintain warranty and are excited to see the car. The warranty manager said his Mrs was a Supra fan (aren't they all) and he has wanted to see people add some power to the 86. All he asked was that I flash the ecu back to stock before bringing it in when it has an issue.

If i go down the boosted road, i think i will take the same path as you. Which state are you in? Ive looked into a few places that can do the road worthy certs for when i cross that bridge

Planning to make my own turbo setup for mine, not all that concerned about warranty as Rising Sun Subaru are able to get long engines and boxes quite cheaply from Japan.
For me, I'll make a nice equal length manifold with proper merge collector, GT28RS with tial V-band housing, MVR gate, v-band BOV, ACL Race formed heatshielding for everything, custom intercooler to fit the car and a nice quiet 3" exhaust with magnaflow mufflers.

The AVO kit looks good but I dont want my car sounding like a WRX.

I will most likely go with the AVO kit as well.

I applaud your decision to do this. Keep it legal and there will be no worries. I have read some where on the net of a person's "journey" to get his car engineered and passed through Rego and yes , it took time, money and paper work but in my mind worth the effort.

Stuck between avo turbo or custom set up from my the tuner guys I know.

Pretty set on avo kit. Moderate and reliable boost. Crank it up a little if I need to. Enough to go when umm needed.

In terms of declaring to the dept of transport - I'm guessing that means u will need to pass emissions - do u know if the stock avo tune can pass these tests?

I'll most probably be on the AVO boat too. Really depends on getting mod permits and emission testing.

Avo option appeals to me because avo Australia is not too far from my work but.... A supercharger is making me more excited

I probably wont do anything for 2 years, i want to see how everyone else go's first, learn from other peoples mistakes haha.

But i will be looking at supercharging, i dont want a pile more power, 50-80hp more would be nice.

That sounds about perfect, I would do the same if I went custom. I'm not really a fan of the UEL sound either.

No idea and I doubt we will test their map sorry.

Hmm, I want more power as well. I am sitting on the fence as well.
Not going to jump the gun and be a pre adopter. Going to wait a year or so for two reasons.
1st/ I want to see who has the best kit for me, I want to chase about 250kw but do not want it all top, I want from above mid power.

2nd/ there are some troubling issues with cars motor wise, want them sorted before I do anything.

All I was really worried about was things like production line faults or random gremlins. They really eased my mind over that which is great. Of course they won't cover any wear/damage caused by the mods, but if it was realistic that the issue would have happened with the stock engine it should be ok.

In case people were wondering here is a very rough break down of costs.

AVO kit ~ $4200 (kit + filter + BOV + shipping)
Install ~ $500 (might do it myself)
Ecutek license and local power tune (maps for 98 and e85) - ~$1k

Engineering review/cert of install ~ $250
Emissions tune (IM240 test) - $500
Engineering brake and lange change testing - $2.5k
Various fees from dept. transport etc. $250

If Toyota decide to release an aftermarket supercharger kit (and it is just rumour/speculation at this point in time) it would save a lot of hassle when it comes to getting it through rego.
