There's a Subaru dealer person here for his dealer in Mid A ( on the forums)right near my work place he's been posting on the forums. He said his dealer has 4 people and 2 already paid deposits chosen trim and stuff as well. He seems like a pretty nice sales guy but it seems that the list of people in my area have significantly increase. There's only about 6 or 7 Mid A people here but the reserves and stuff from what I've check for both FRS and BRZ is alot higher we're looking at 25+ now. Think 25 cars and the dealers are expected to get about 3 at a time... that's alot of wait time if you don't go and get something down now. ;/

I cannot imagine this tiny trickle of cars everyone is saying we're going to get. If so, it's just more bullshit. This is not a fancy low-production exotic. It's the return to affordable rear drive sports coupes. A car for the masses.

Car salesmen or all salesmen ? Some sales people act more like consultants if they are in highly specialized industries, opposed to selling in a more commoditized industry.

I forget what generation of VWAG turbo engine it is, but I think around 2000-2004. Check VWvortex for that. As far as EJ engines, they've shown the same characteristic and you can check that on NASIOC.

It's all subjective. You won't find science on an internet forum TOO often.

This thread gives me a sad. (I can haz a sad?)

Let's say for argument sake, I have exactly whatever the MSRP is to spend as my budget. And let's say I won't know if I want one until I at least sit in one (if not rest drive it). What's the soonest I can get the one color I want in the Limited trim with manual? Do I need to wait until December until all the pre-May preorders are filled, and then have my car ordered from May until they get one to my spec?

I want the car this Spring, not next year!

Agreed. Seems dumb that they're building all of this hype but keeping supply low - especially when it seems pretty apparent that demand will be strong. I'm not going to buy a car I haven't even sat in or seen, and if the soonest one could get a specific color/trim is late this year then there's a good chance that something else will come along in the meantime, resulting in a lost sale for Subaru.

If the idea is that this car will build brand excitement, resulting in sales of other vehicles, I don't see that happening.

I think a lot of us have a misconception on what demand will really be. True there is a lot of excitement around this car, but let's face it, this is not a practical car, and is never going to see the kind of sales numbers like the Impreza, or Forester.

It's still a niche car though and it's common to start with low production on niche cars.

In reality production will be high for a niche car since they are doing a fairly short worldwide release schedule but it won't be Camry production numbers.

I wouldn't say that supply is being kept low. I would expect that the #s people are projecting are normal. I would be surprised if subaru sells 10000 of these cars a year. Not sure how many dealers they have but if its 250 then we are talking 40 cars per dealer which works out to 3 cars a month.

10k cars ayear would be twice as many cars as honda sold s2000s in their prime and I'm being very generous in my estimate because that car didn't have a clone. I think ikt is safe to sa that the less expensive car will probably sell slightly better.

Yep, when other companies see that this is popular they will definitely create a better car with similar features

The markey for impractical rear drive sport coupes is very small....affordable or not.

I think this car is going to be great, but the idea that this car is going to revolutionize the market is crazy. This car isn't going to pull anyone from their cuv purchase or that mid size family sedan. It is going to be a niche vehicle that will cut into miata sales an maybe 1 series bmw sales a little, and maybe some of the v6 camaro and mustang crowd.

I doubt that they are purposely creating a low supply. I just think supply is low and the demand is high at the onset of the car being sold. Seriously give it 6-12 months and everything will be gravy.

Hmmm, do you think they'll change the release date for the next version? Or mostly stick with springish?
