A lot of good info here...maybe we should start a new DIY CAN interface thread?

i'd use a raspberry pi for something like that. mainly because it's got decent video output options and is fast enough at that sort of thing. also you could use a gprs add-on and have it just stream data up to a server, so it's 24/7 realtime with no onboard storage to worry about. just go online, pick a time range, look at the graphs, use various tools (that are currently spreadsheets). i've always wanted to build something like that, so that i didn't have to copy and paste so much and if anything went boom i'd have a constant record.

Well... so much for that. Apparently I programmed that arduino too many times... It just died on me. lol... I was wondering why my code was so horrible -.- I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't just work. *sigh*.

If you are gonna be switching up platforms, you may want to try out the TI Tiva series MCUs:

http://www.ti.com/ww/en/launchpad/tiva_c_head.html

Like I said in one of my earlier replies, they are quite nice to develop on. They include a 32-bit ARM Cortex M4 core with built-in USB and CAN controllers. They even include an on board driver library ROM that is really easy to work with.

The Launchpad actually has two of the MCUs on it. One that is setup to act as an ISP programmer and USB UART relay for the other. Quite easy to program with completely open source tools too.

rabbitcore micro with wifi would probably work fine for datalogging and could connect to a smartphone for all UI
All about the size of a stick of gum (excluding the wifi antenna)

Get a new chip...http://www.adafruit.com/products/123

Or get another arduino and learn to flash your own once the bootloader gets corrupted.

It was an off brand with a surface mount =x. Im ordering more tonight though!
I got it working again but i dont trust it... I kept getting corruption in serial feed etc.

Adafruit is going to get some love from me tonight. And planning on ordering a small logic analyzer as well. This would have made such a big difference =/ I didn't realize you could get them cheap-ish.

Has anyone, or does anyone know anyone that has done anything with logging with this platform at all? I finally got SSM over CAN Bus going (500K!!) However I am getting access denied errors on the memory addresses im polling. I would love to talk to someone that has messed with this in the past, im new to it!

I still haven't gotten off my ass to try KLine logging as I just wanted to see if and what I could pull via SSM over CAN as I couldn't find much of any info on how to do it and wanted to see if I could do it.
