I think a lot of people just generally avoid cars involved in collisions but will still consider buying it if a big enough discount is given.

New update boys: so my insurance company said that the photos that are being used as evidence are in my favor and the other driver is at fault. What should I do about back and neck pain since my policy doesn't include that. My back and neck are progressively getting worst and I'm scared if I go to the hospital I will be left with a big bill that I can't even afford in my current situation. Any suggestions with you who has been through something like this before. |

You're probably covered by your parents' insurance plan.

Regarding all these total loss speculations, let me set the record straight. A "total loss" by definition means that the value of repairs exceeds the market value of the vehicle. There's no percentage threshold that insurance companies use, it's simply that after adding up the repair costs, then subtracting the salvage value recovered from selling the totaled car to a salvage vendor (and occasionally other claim-related expenses), that it's cheaper for the insurance company to total it versus repairing it that the car becomes a total. So for a simple example. Car is worth $10,000 in the current market in your area, repair costs are $8,500 and the salvage value of the car is $2,000, the car will be a total. Reason being, market value is $10,000 - $2,000 recovered by the insurance company after they total your car and recover the salvage by reselling it = $8,000, versus the $8,500 it cost to repair it. The whole xx% threshold is a misnomer; it's all about value to repair versus market value of the car. And almost anything can be repaired - auto manufacturers sell most of the components of the unibody, which can be safely replaced, if done by a competent body shop. Quote:
You have the option to file a bodily injury (BI) claim with the other driver's insurance carrier. Their liability coverage (bodily injury coverage) will be responsible for handling any expenses related to your injury (if they accept fault for the accident). |
