Anyone here thinking about getting an oil cooler for tracking?

I was looking at the Cusco oil cooler, which uses engine coolant (for it's simplicity and ability to warm oil as well on startup), but this looks like it might be better:

Installed/How-To: 2014 Forester XT OEM Oil Cooler

Definitely. That's a nice write-up, and about half the price of a Cusco setup.
We can do a group install in the spring.

Already ordered the bits and pieces from my local dealership. Should all arrive on Thursday. Factory oem quality, for less than the cost of an aftermarket system. And essentially it's a bolt on kit!

Just curious, were you guys seeing oil temps that worried you?

Also, do you run 0W30 on the track or stick with 0W20?

I wish I had my OBD adapter earlier, could've checked oil temps while at the track. There are some in the US that report that track oil temps are fine and within range, while others are preaching the necessity of an oil cooler.

But certainly the safest option is to run one if you do more than just the occasional track day.

I run the factory Toyota full-synthetic 0W20.

Is it really worth it stopping the collision portion?

Is there ANY possibility of another vehicle running into it?

I have heard of someone crashing thru their own garage door on ice and hitting their stored car - they were on the hook for the damage to the stored car.

I would save maybe a total of $200 over the winter. I'm leaving the insurance as is on my FR-S while it slumbers in the garage.

Just my 2 cents I guess

That is kind of hard to believe but all you could hope for at that point is for your car to burst into flames and be covered in the "fire and theft" portion. My car will be parked about 100meters off the road so any vehicle that could potentially hit it would have to be traveling roughly 400 mph so I think I will take my chances! Lol

lol if i drive through my own garage then i guess its on me. although i think that one you could fight because if you parked it and it got vandalized it would be covered. they should only not cover it if its on the road as its not insured to be on the road.

Close call

Driving back from gas fill up today an unmarked police officer was coming from a different direction and turned down the same street I was going too turn down. He sees me, makes the turn and pulls over to let me pass. Gets in right behind me and follows me into my parking lot. I wasn't speeding as who is ever in a hurry to get back to work, so the only reason is my smoked plate cover. I park the car and get out and he just slowly circles and drives off. Think he saw the clear cover on the back and decided it just wasn't worth it. Phew!!!!
