You could connect that to the grounding bolt that's next to the fuse box in the driver's side foot well.

SUPER THANKS TO CHAETAGNATH! Providing me with so much help thru messaging i've finally got everything hooked up! My first time dealing with wiring things so i was really nervous with it.

Heres some pictures of the center console plaque connected with the Footwell lights! One bad thing about this plaque is that it heats up really quick =/ and gets hot... dont know what i should do.. so right now it's just set to on during the dome lights come on. etc...

HUGE thanks to @Chaetagnath . wouldnt have been able to do this without your help along the entire way.

only problem i have is the dome light stopped working on me. might be the led connector, but ill see.

anyways here ya go.

hooked up to a spdt switch so it can either stay on even when the car is off or come on when the car is unlocked or doors open. basically functions just like the dome light. mounted the switch near the trunk release

I was asked by an 86 owner across the pond what I did to remedy the grounded out body ECU.

This pink wire is the ground for the "door" function on the dome light.

In the US, FR-S owners can run a wire to the illuminated ring around the keyhole.

I believe 86 owners can use the ground for the courtesy lamp or door lamp.

Sounds like a problem with the ECU. Do the footwell lights do the same thing?

You could try disconnecting the battery for like 20 minutes and then reconnecting to try to reboot the ECU. If that doesn't work, probably your best bet will be to take it to the dealership and get it fixed. Or you can rewire to the light on the key ring like chri@phaetek posted.

MrTranxD, assuming you leave the switch "ON" when you leave the car, do your floor lights come on when you open the door with the dome light? Or do you need to turn the car on before the lights illuminate?
