can you post a good picture of the hood close up and also next to the paint? i just want to see how it looks and how it will match with the raven... do i really need a clear coat on it to protect it ? or could i use JETSEAL109 from Chemical Guys to protect it with good layers of wax during every wash

this engine and many others are not afraid to get a bit wet. i have a vented hood similar to this and my engine bay just gets soaked every time it rains or when i wash it. no problems here. ive had the vented hood on for almost 2 years with no problems in rain or snow.

hey there man. just wondering about water and the hood. i am currently boosted w vortech and am concerned in regards to where the water hits. does the water seem to directly spill onto the oem belt? I had a ts hood and the water just would be all over the belts and pulleys which is alarming to me with my vortech. i don't want any issues of the belt flyin off or skipping a rib since that could cause big trouble for my blower. any input would be great in terms of where the water ends up landing in the engine bay. thanks!!

The water runoff depends on whether or not you are using the rain guards or not. If you are, the water tends to run toward the front of the engine bay out the front of the guards (near the radiator fans). If you are not using them, then the water has direct access to whatever is exposed beneath the vents.

Personally I never take the rain guards out and I live in AZ where inclement whether that involves rain is a rarity. The hood vents regardless if you have then in or not so I just don't see the point in taking them out for daily driving. At the track I take them out. The guards just protect the engine bay from direct contact from the external environment. The guards have the exact same vents in them that the hood does but they are all offset to the hood vents if that makes sense. I catch rocks, bugs, sand, you name it. I much rather have all that crap in the guard pans than in the engine bay where I am extreme about engine bay cleanliness.

I use to have the Vortech and never had any issues with water. The most I ever was exposed to rain with that hood and the rain guards in place was a 5.5 hour trip to Los Angeles for the 86 Nation Fest where it rained the entire way (except at the show thankfully). The engine bay was barely wet considering how heavy it rained the whole way. I now run the hood with a turbo setup and still leave the guards in and the heat is vented just fine. Underhood temps are marginally higher than IATs with that hood on.

Thanks a bunch for the awesome and thorough reply. Seems that helps me with my decision. Given that you were driving in the rain and had minimal water in the bay and didn't have issues w the belt, looks like I'll be grabbing one in the near future ! Thanks again for the input!
