Exactly. If you don't want radio or ac delete yourself. Not factory delete on a mass production car.

Not too hopeful on those two, but 8 speakers is just ridiculous! In fairness, the BRZ won't be my daily driver, but I would, at least, like the option do purchase a not-daily driver friendly car...I guess it has just baffled me how they are marketing the car to a specific demographic (tuners, weekend warriors, etc) who would rather have the hp and weight savings than the gimmicks, and then make HIDs, NAV, 8 speakers, bluetooth, etc standard...They are just driving up the price with things that appeal to people NOT in that demographic...

We already know that JDM BRZ has the options for it.

They could have brought the stripped down version over. But for some reason decided not to do so. Not sure if they thought it would cannabilize Scion sales or what.

I assume it is something along the lines of looking at the standard equipment in even the B segment cars, and assuming Americans won't buy a car without those things standard...but that is what is puzzling me, too, since the whole concept of the BRZ/FRS was to create a car that had been missing from sales floors as of late...No electronic devices to interfere with your driving, and correct it, and no electronics to otherwise distract from the simple joy of driving the car...And looking at other cars as some sort of indicator of market or competition just makes no sense, since they are producing a car with, literally, no immediate in-class competition...

Its not just marketed towards driving enthusiasts. Its marketed towards young males. Thats why its so affordable. And young males now a days want HIDs, and smartphone ready radio units. Doesnt have anything to do with how much you enjoy driving, its just genration y taking over.

And honestly, the FRS is one of the most (if not THE most) stripped down sports cars you can find on the American auto market.

I'm 25, and I don't want all the extras...

Man, I've been through those tortuous days. I would never, ever, ever, ever buy another car without A/C. Ever.

I realize it adds weight and when turned on steals some of the power. But... Oh man. How somebody could even want a vehicle without Air Conditioning unless they live at one of the Poles is beyond me.

You should get the FR-S and just take out the AC

Like someone mentioned earlier, the FR-S will already be pretty bare bones. Any more bare bones and ignorant Americans may laugh at Scion for going too far trying to be affordable by skimping out on their halo. It'd hurt brand image. Subaru would be worse.

Another reason: It's hard to predict viability. This is a new car in a new segment in an American market where low-displacement sports cars go extinct. Toyota is banking on a paradigm shift but there's still way too many variables to predict if a stripped version will sell (I believe it would). Subie/Yota can't go all in all at once. Give the car time to post its stakes in the ground... other trim levels may follow. I saw an article on Zaku's facebook with this key point at the end:

...if that offers any hope.

Kinda disappointed that it seems the 2nd lowest model (yes AC, 2 speakers not 8, non-LSD option) isn't going to come to America since that one suits me the best. I don't ever recall turning on the radio, but I need a basic system just in case friends want to listen to music lol. AC is a necessity in the summer as I hate opening windows. To reduce drag on the motor you could put a switch so it only runs under braking/idle.
