It'll be standard as confirmed by MotoIQ, and a few of the reviews if I remember correctly; the Torsen is an inexpensive OEM solution and an off-the-shelf part at Subaru. Scion will not be making any changes to the drivetrain from what has been shown already.

IIRC reports stated that the rear diff was a Toyota sourced unit. Furthermore, Subaru does not have off the shelf Torsen diffs. They do have VLSD units though.

The Toyota sourced units are Torsen T-2 (JTEKT Torsen is part of the Toyota Group) used in the IS, RAV4, Supra, and many JDM Toyota vehicles. The WRX STI has been equipped with the Torsen on the front diff since 2005, and the rear since 2007.

Also... it is confirmed the 86/BRZ/FR-S will have Torsen T-2 units on their Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torsen

Entertaining video indeed... just remember folks this man can drive... don't everyone go flying into your local ditches trying to be like Chris Harris in that GT86 video ;-)
Agreed. If you read Chris's comments on www.pistonheads.com that go with the video he says the GT86 is not an easy car to drift (even though he makes it look easy!).

That's why they will offer a mechanical slip differential as an option. For the drifters and racers.

You might have misread my post

I notice he mis-pronounced the 86 (hint: if it was eighty-six, it would be called Hachi-Ju-Roku not Hachi-Roku)...
He pronounced it as "eighty-six" when he should have said "eight-six". Unless you mean that this new model is being called the "GT Eighty-Six"? I have not read or heard that anywhere, but you never know.

I'm not talking about Chris Harris, I'm talking about all the props. people give to Toyota in this thread.

This is from Subaru's press release in the US:
"A standard TORSEN® limited-slip differential helps the inside wheel maintain traction during hard cornering."

This is from Scion's press release in the US:
"The power is put to the pavement via a standard Torsen limited-slip differential."
