The issue is that on some cars at least that's what i am to understand have different tolerances when it comes to the shift linkage since it's rough cast. I've gone under the car on numerous occasions and have not been able to find any points where contact is made. At first i could get the rattle with the car sitting in neutral, then i swapped the bushings. This made a mild improvement with the rattle being less pronounced but still there at idle. The rubber washer I made just effectively added a little more space, but is just barely not enough. I only hear the issue in 1st and second gear and only when i rev to around 5k+ rpm. Even then it is nowhere near as loud or annoying as it was before. Hopefully I can get BPS to make a set of bushings that is thicker and thinner respectively and test them out to ensure that it will fix it.

I also switched the bushing and still have the rattle above 5k.

Like gmookher said, thanks for taking the time to figure this out.

A bolt with a nyloc nut instead of the pin and cotter pin might allow the user to adjust the tension there to get rid of the rattle. Though some teflon bushings might be required to allow everything to move shoothly.

A ball joint rod end would be nice, but probably cost prohibitive.

Considering getting this shifter. Rattle or not I'm sure there will be a fix.

Does anyone have a picture of this boot they can't get off nor back on?

Edit: Is the boot that can't be gotten off without destruction in this picture?

That would be the boot. You see how small that hole is in the side of the boot. Well you have to get a ton of shifter arm through that little hole without tearing it which is the easy part. The hard part is getting it back on afterwards.

Yeah I can see the challenge getting the boot on and off. Wondering if heating it would help. I'm thinking I'll order a new one just in case. Anal about things like that, I can see a need to keep that joint free of any grime.

OK, how the hell do you guys get the plastic bushing off the old shifter? I'm trying to do this install now and I'm literally stumped!

OK, follow-up to that; I called BPS and they told me to make a cut on the plastic bushing to remove it. Made total sense as before when I've worked on cars the shift bushings would not be solid all the way around. So I pulled out a sharp knife, cut the bushing, slipped it on the new shifter and re-installed.

Was there ever a proper solution for the rattle? I have the BPS piece and I have a little bit of rattle in higher rpms.

Not that I'm aware of. I've sent 2 emails to Mat and gotten no response. They no longer have a vendor account here either so I'm thinking they just gave up. I still get a bit of a muted rattle between 3.5k to 4k, but with the stereo on, I barely notice it. Still disappointed in their customer service though. Used to get email responses within a day or two and now nothing in over 2 weeks.

I wish I would have read this before I ordered the BPS shifter earlier this week. Now I'm a little worried that my car that has no issues and I love driving will now be plagued with this rattle lol. I guess I'll install it without modifying it at all and see what happens. I'll update everyone once I have it installed and have driven it.
