i'm not sure if anyone mentioned this

i have over 5000 km on my car now, and have heard crickets couple of times.....i did notice it was on very hot days

since we only get so many hot days here, i haven't heard them in a long time

has this been already established that outside heat can bring the cricket choir to life?

Long answer: Yes, I'm on my 4th engine replacement. Fireballs and you'll get on the evening news.

Short answer: Actually, no. The only fire related to this was when some asshat tech didn't install the replacement pump correctly.

The current observational evidence is that the crickets tend to come out with higher ambient (surrounding) temperatures.

I've been watching this thread since December of last year waiting for a new part number. It's not a problem to "not" get it fixed as the pump functions just fine. It's just a quality of life issue. I waited and waited this time around and finally they have a completely different part and not a "revised" one. I'll take the gamble.

Too funny... my BRZ crickets disappeared about the same time the real crickets did (first frost).

I'm in a cold part of ontario and get crickets. My stealership just called and said my new pump would be in mid-late next week, which I thought was damn quick for canada.

I'm gonna have to say the whole "cooler temperatures means no crickets" is not accurate- at least in my case. Yesterday was 45 F and today was 42 F, both mornings before sunrise on my way to work, crickets were relentless. I'm a civilian pilot that works on a military airfield, and this morning the gate guard says, "why are those crickets complaining so much about being under your hood? You'd think they'd appreciate the heat!" The good news is that my car is getting the latest model high pressure fuel pump even as I write this. I hope this "crickets" thing is finally over.

So I went to my dealer inquiring about the new TSB and fuel pump. He said there was not an updated TSB but did confirm the new fuel pump part number I gave him. He said he called his toyota rep and was told the new pump is the same revised green dot pump. They just finally put a different part number on it. That sounds like a load of crap to me so I am going to hit another dealership tomorrow.

[QUOTE=JSMIL;1293756]So I went to my dealer inquiring about the new TSB and fuel pump. He said there was not an updated TSB but did confirm the new fuel pump part number I gave him.

Your dealer is poorly informed. Revision 2 to the original TSB is available dated 17 October 2013. I saw it with my own eyes. I got my new fuel pump- new part number- installed today. I had no idea how noisy my engine was. Not only was it chirping, but wow what a clatter. I only know that now because this new pump is quiet, I mean really quiet compared to what I had become used to in 3700 miles. It is still a clattery engine, but not like it was. I will update from time to time as I get mileage on the new pump.
By the way, I am in the deep south, we are supposed to be back in the eighties for temperatures next week. I will be able to at least give it more of a workout in the higher temps.
