Was tapped on rear bumper, options?

I hate that it's only been one month since I've had it, but I was bumped on the QEW in the middle of stop and go traffic.

Some nice scratches and gouges in the photos.

Question is how to proceed? I am concerned about getting a perfect paint match with SWP/Whiteout.

1. Just go through insurance - this is the most painless way. I'm insured through TD monnex, so that means the body shop will be Uni-body Collision in Mississauga. Are they decent?

2. Get truck driver to pay up - he entertained this idea, but not sure of his cost threshold. I could get an OEM bumper and get it paint matched at a reputable shop (any suggestions?)

3. Other

What say you?

Have you considered administering a dirt nap to the culprit?

Have him buy you a new bumber. It's so new that Scion should be able to order in a new bumper (already painted), and the paint will match.

They don't come pre-painted.

To the OP if you decide to take cash from the guy remember to account for rental car charges and and any other out if pocket expenses you might incur from not having your car for a day or two. Not just the cost of a new bumper and paint.

Be careful of these truck drivers. They say they will settle with you privately, but it never happens since they all probably don't live in this province. They will act all nice and give you all the info and stuff but once they leave, they're gone. I own a body shop, I've seen A LOT of these. Claim it if I were you but if you're lucky and he did pay you for the whole bumper. You can actually just repaint your current bumper, the damage is pretty minimal so a decent body shop will get it done with 100% paint match since the car is still new and the colours didn't change it, it'll look brand new

Truck driver was in Ontario, provided all info.

Went to OPP and filed report. Will file claim since I believe I have a good chance at 0% at fault.
@aSaki maybe the photos I do not show the depth of some of those. The ABS has some full fractures/cracks and IMHO should be replaced fully.

I am just concerned about paint matching and risk of increased insurance premiums (Ontario problems)

90% of being hit from behind won't be a fault so do not worry about insurance increase. If you already filed a report then you are safe but if you didn't do it within 48hrs then you are pretty much done, theres no way to claim anything at that time. Just keep contacting the truck driver and tell him to pay up, I've seen a lot of them don't give a crap and just let it be. As for the dmg on the bumper, yes you could get a new one but like if you want to save like $400 - $500 on the bumper and use it towards a mod then thats an option too, but that bumper isn't too bad even with cracks, it just won't be perfect XD

I just got lightly rear-ended a week or so ago (here in the GTA, on Bloor St.) and the other persons insurance covered it with no increase or cost on my side.

I had it repaired at Ken Shaw Toyota's body shop, they did a really nice job (though might was not as bad as yours). It was about 800 bux for the repair. For you, they might get you a new bumper tho.

My FR-S is Raven/black though...

Thanks.

I filed my claim and am reviewing options. Bottom line is I want it to match. SWP/Whiteout can be troublesome....

Any chipping or scarring of the bumper skin means the negligent party must pay for a new bumper skin. Fill and repaint does NOT work for flexible bumper skins.

Scuffing of the heavy coating of flexible paint is easily repairable but actual marking of the plastic skin is not repairable. Don't be sucked in.

Also, every bumper tap hard enough to do more than scuff the paint warrants checking of the collision absorption material as it starts deforming at 2 mph. Once deformed most such material must be replaced as it can't absorb impact twice.

I don't believe this to be true, they filled and repainted my bumper and you would never be able to tell anything had ever happened there.
