Our rpm pickup on the dyno is acting funny lately. Gotta order a new one.

This is making me want to water meth my car and really put the screws to this engine. I wonder if I can somehow block all full blown related turbo threads lol

Nope no torque. Believe it or not the FA20 is a torque free engine. It helps with mileage.

I figured as much. I almost posted that was the most likely reason. I have had issues getting a good tach signal at two of the Dynojets my car has been on.

Just curious. I have been around several dynos, but I have never ran one. How exactly does a dyno pick up the RPMs. I just assumed that the computer was picking it up through the OBDII, but again I am only assuming. I don't actually know.

My trip to FBM - FBM Premium Turbo Kit build

Usually it's an electronic pickup off one of the coil packs or plug wires, just like a timing light.

Thank you. That makes sense and gets the info closer to the source instead of relying on what comes from the ECU.

I have the car back. I will do a proper write up later once I have had the chance to also the drive the car on my E85 map. So for now just my initial impressions from the last 3 days of driving her.

This is the most fun 270whp has ever felt to me. Now seeing how well this car handles the extra power, I am shocked at how little she came with. Mind you, the best thing about the BRZ/FRS is that it is a blank canvas car. You start with a very capable platform for a relatively cheap new price and can build from there to fit your own tastes/needs. You all already know this, that's one of the reasons you already own one.

LJ and his shop did a great job, everything feels solid. If you haven't dealt with him, he really is the most humble tuner I have worked with. I hope I didn't give you a scare on the test drive LJ.

The power comes on very linearly, which is expected when looking at the dynos....but those are only numbers. The car is light, so 270whp feels more like 330-370whp in most cars. It doesn't have the slingshot effect that the WRX's are known for. In fact the power delivery is less turbo feeling than I expected. In other words modulating power is easier without a surprise to your right foot from the turbo. The FX400 clutch, stiffer for sure. The resistance reminds me of my first clutches from the 80's and 90's model year cars that I learned on. So taking off is requiring some learning. You have to expect this with a new clutch( haven't killed it yet), still its not a real picky clutch. However, making gear changes once on the move is much better in my opinion over the stock one. You need very little controlled movements to make quick clean shifts. In other words I really like the clutch. Much better than the feel of my two stage Exedy in my EVO, plus no rattle at stoplights.

Another thing, when I do take off hard and wheel spin happens; boy the car just doesn't get sideways. Sure wheels spin, but car just stays straight. This makes you feel so controlled that is very easy to keep playing with the accelerator and play with the car to your hearts content. Now with 407whp on the E85, that might react a little different. I don't know. But I do love how the car handles the new power.

Anyways, I will write a more complete field report once I have more experience with the car. If anyone has any questions please let me know. I would like to be able to help any new builds or tuning newbies with my experiences thus far. I am 100% happy I went FI. I cant say that about my Cayman. Some cars lose themselves in the modding process. The BRZ did not in my opinion, no regrets for me.

Great to hear you got the car back and are loving the Full Blown experience. That's a great way to describe LJ, humble and quiet. Boost transforms these cars from a economic sporty car to a corvette and m3 killer, I can only imaging what you can take down with 407whp.

Thanks Mike! Glad you enjoy the car so far. I usually don't get nervous, but being in the passenger seat with you behind the wheel for the first time.. I wasn't expecting you to push it around that corner hahaha.

After seeing how comfortable you were with the car, I can only imagine how much fun you will be having every time you drive it

Let me know how everything goes!

I know it LJ, I should have mentioned what I was doing. You never know what kind of driver your going to get. I have taken to the new clutch and new power like a fish to water. I imagine that it will take longer getting used to the E85 experience, but I am sure I will get relatively surgical with it. I am not expert driver but I am very methodical when driving so. Again, this car is so much fun with extra power. You don't lose any of the personality of the car. Well, she may act a little more pissed off.
