Worry more about the map sensor getting wet. I'm still looking for a solution for that.

It is equally beneficial on NA, TC, and SC motors. Some turbo setups may require it more than others though due to turbo placement and the added exhaust heat being dumped in the engine bay.

The down side to vents, and the reason OEM's don't put them, is the exposure to the elements on a DD.

Some OEMs use vented hoods on performance cars...

Wrap the entire throttle body pipe, MAF, and wiring in some form of heat protectant either one of those intake sleeves or some gold foil tape.

Most that do either have them ducted or in a location that water can get through and not cause any issues (ex. the GT500 duct sits between the belt and radiators w/ almost nothing underneath). Just saying it is definitely beneficial but thats just something to considered if you are going vented. Will be venting mine as well eventually.

Looking at the different vented hoods, I'm wondering which one would be most effective is drawing hot air out from the engine compartment?

Where would be the best placement/positions for the vents?

I'm planning on cutting the "mouthpiece" off of my BRZ front which should open the front up quite a bit, but at the same time I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to vent that extra air out of the engine bay.

Aerodynamically, I'm leaning strongly towards the VS style hood from seibon. It has a leading edge lip to create a dramatic high pressure area directly in front of, and subsequently, a low pressure area directly over the vent area. That will cause a lot of engine bay air to be drawn out.

Would making the fake side vents functional by cutting into the frame help with cooling?

That hood looks like it is very functional. I agree the "trip-lip" should help pull air up and out from under the hood.

I'd REALLY like to see someone come out with nice Fender Garnishes with a few vents , angled back lovers if you will. I've now seen a few folks that drilled these and amount of engine bay heat that releases even static was very surprising! Something color coded with still having the pistons badge position etc would be hot patatoe IMO!!
