Possibly, but how would they be able to prove you didn't do any servicing on your car? I mean, unless it was completely visible or apparent that you didn't maintain your car, but I would think it would have to be extreme.

While your car is under warranty follow the maintenance in the manual and keep receipts if doing it yourself.

Yes they can but sign the service book yourself. Which you are able to do. (Well in australia )

Suppose you have receipts for oil and perform oil changes yourself (as I currently do for my WRX). The engine pops and you've been performing maintenance at the scheduled interval. Dealer denies you because you don't have any service records from them and can't provide service records from another shop. You really have to fight for them to cover stuff like that.

A car under warranty goes to the dealer for required maintenance because it's simpler in the event that you need warranty work related to the internals. It sucks, I hate dealerships and their greasemonkeys, but that's how I see it playing out.

Those who own Subaru / Toyotas which cost less to maintain ?
from oil changes to 5k service cost... which cost less ?
I know for a fact the near by city toyota dealership sends us in the mail
" $29.99 oil changes " ...

Dollar per dollar running cost ? should I even care .. ? is it that marginal
I live in San Francisco Bay area .. the closest Subaru place is in Putnam Subaru ...
where-as to service the Scion I can go to City Toyota in Daily city.

I can't get this silly issue out of my mind.
[[cuz @40k my cars first major service maintenance will be $800-1000]]
Toyota 101 in Daly City/ Across from In and Out burger @ Daly City
by the way, oil change is very easy which will save you a little more $ rather than go to the dealer

The maintenance between the two should be roughly the same...

...the insurance costs are what you need to worry about...Scion has a younger (read, more likely to have a claim filed...higher insurance rates for owners) demographic than Subaru, so this might become an issue down the road.

Insurance underwriting is often very sketchy, inconsistent, and nonsensical...and changes over time. We'll just need to see what happens

Yeah, right. I'm gonna get my car repaired at a dealership. *snort* Why don't I flush my money down a toilet? - George Costanza

I work at Toyota/Scion Dealership in San Diego, and you do not know how rude some people are, regarding cost of the facility.

Alot of people seem to demand repairs and other items while the dealership has bills to pay like everyone else.
