Price... what the FRS/BRZ should cost

It's obvious that Subaru and Toyota do their research around these forums which means we have the power to let them know what we think.
The mistake made by Subaru on the 08 WRX was fixed thanks to the amount of complaints.

We need to let them know what we think these cars should cost so I decided to make an official thread.

I personally don't think that these cars should be priced anywhere close to the WRX. The WRX includes AWD, a Turbo components, more doors, wider 17"wheels/tires which all add up to higher costs, and this is why I don't see the FRS and BRZ costing around the same.

I personally feel good/fair prices would be
$21k-$22k for the Scion
$22k-$23k for the Subaru.

Be reaslistic and post your price and comments.

Aside from "search", I think you got it right. although the more you become a fanboy the more you're willing to think is fair.

Those are really ugly numbers.

For me... (what I believe seems to be reasonable)

FR-S
20-21k for MT
22-23k for AT

Subaru (Premium)
23-24k for MT
25-26k for AT

Subaru (Limited)
26-27k for MT
27-28k for AT

And to OP those two choices for the poll don't seem very... "great." There's those little words "only" and "significant" that make the poll seem kinda... off.

This is probably the fourth price thread in as many weeks, but these numbers look pretty legit to me. I'm expecting pretty much the same as you and would be surpriser if they're significantly lower than this.

well the aussie toyota boss hinted it would be priced with a 3 at the start so i am hoping its 33999AUD for base M/T and under 38999 for premium

well the base WRX starts at $25,595 so it would make sense for the BRZ to be lower, as it could cannibalize WRX sales if they were offering it at the same price or vice-versa the same goes for Scion and the FR-S cutting into tC sales as the tC starts at $19,305, it would make sense that the FR-S starts at $21,000 for manual, and $22 for the automatic.

final thought

FR-S $21,000-manual
$22,000-automatic

BRZ premium $23,000-maunal
$24,000-automatic

limited $25,000-manual
$26,000-automatic

Scion FR-S
21k-22k
Subaru BRZ
24k-26.5k

So for an extra 2k, you get digital havoc controls, leather/alacantra seats, navigation, and push engine start. I don't think my estimate is correct.

If a civic Si starts at 22k with FWD and a inline engine there is no way a RWD, boxer D/I engine, and so much focus on handling sports car will start at 20k.

I think the Civic Si will compete with the tC and Focus ST. And FRS will compete with the Miata and "USED" 350z's and 370z's.

FR-S is Toyota 86 low spec based but with the white tach and a 8 speaker stereo.
And I will have to say currently because what we have seen may not be final spec. Things could be added or taken away.

But let's go with what we have seen so far as being final spec.....

Also he BRZ premium does not have dual zone hvac and push start. It has exactly the same stuff as the FR-S but includes Hids and navigation. Subaru currently charges $1000 for their Navigation system in the WRX. So figure pricing like this.

FR-S $23k 6 speed manual
BRZ premium $24k 6 speed manual (HIDS, Navigation)
BRZ limited $26k 6 speed manual (adds dual zone ac, push start, heated leather\alcantara seats, fog lights)

Add $1000 for 6 speed automatic

The base 2012 WRX is $25.6k the premium WRX $28k and the WRX limited is $29k. Also add $750 for destination and delivery charge. Automatic Climate control is standard on all WRX models. Leather trim seats and hids are included in the limited wrx for only $1k more that the premium wrx. But why is the Premium WRX over $2500 more than the base WRX? You only get sunroof, heated front seats and fog lights.

Also keep in might the 2013 WRX is going to be all new...2.0 liter turbo with 270+hp, could be out in less than 6 months after the BRZ comes out. They could price it much higher than the current WRX.

A loaded BRZ will be about the same price as a base WRX...which is $26k.
There is no way Scion is going to sell the FR-S at $20k to 21k...not even $22k...$23k is more realistic. We could get lucky and they price it at $22k. Just think of what the Civil Si sells for. Oh damn I just checked and the 2012 Civic Si coupe is way overpriced its $23.1K base with summer tires and its $24.6k for the model with Navigation. I only bring this up because both models of the BRZ supposedly have Navigation.

Comparing the base Civic Si coupe which runs $23.1k to what the FR-S might cost and we might be disappointed but hey Scion is all about value, right? The tC is really the equal to the Civic Si right? Why is the tC $4k cheaper? I know the Civic Si has a limited slip diff, but damn the Honda is expensive.

Hey Scion if you are reading this...Price the FR-S at $22k base and let us add options. You know what options some of us want...Dual Zone AC with push start, HIDS, leather\alcantara seats, fog lights.

Subaru if you are reading this...Price the BRZ limited at $23k and the Premium at $25k

IMO that's the closest I've seen to being on the mark.
