Thanks, I read all the posts and saw that 1 person had their BUI replaced. I was wondering if that was the case for the others as well.

Bump on this. Seems like nobody was aware the courtesy lights should not have been messed with. Someone on this thread said they had to take it to the dealer to change out a BUI? What is a BUI? Did you tell him you were trying to change the lights to LED? Or did you tell him it just stopped working?

Interested in more info on this issue before I mess with changing it over to the LEDs I just ordered... I'm sure if you just put the stock bulb back in and take it to the dealership it will be covered under warranty. Just tell them it stopped working.

Tried that this past weekend. They blamed it on the interior footwell kit splicing into something and shutting that off. And then I remembered after I left that there were no wires spliced when that kit was installed. Just a replacement on that festoon bulb. Will try again next time I go and show them there was no splicing done.

Any follow up on this issue? Did warranty replace the BUI or they made you pay?
Had the same issue happen to me today with a brand new 3 day old 2014 BRZ dealership service people trying to blame it on the LED's which is BS because they are same voltage and consume even less power and noone else that i know had the issue with their LED's..and bulb works perfect on the driver side but not on the passenger side
Help please if someone knows

I have the same current problem, both passenger and driver courtesy lights aren't working. I made an appt with one dealership yesterday and they told me it would be $95.00 for a diagnostic check to figure out what is wrong with it. Asked about warranty coverage and they told me if it is something covered under warranty then I won't have to pay. Nonsense service...took it to another dealership today and they didn't say anything about money. Gave me a free loaner bc tech couldn't figure it out quick so they're gonna look more into it. I'll post updates as I get them

usually Module is mulfunctioning on that section of lighting. it had happened to me on my RSX-S. yes i did have LED interior bulbs. I still don't know how LED bulbs cause this. after that, i never install LED inside. some car works fine but some cars don't.
unfortunately, module has to be replaced and it's very expensive!

BIU needs to be replaced. I had it replaced, and stopped messing with any of the interior lighting. All interior lights are now stock bulbs. May wire up footwell to the cigarette lighter in the dash later.

When you get it back, make sure your DRL work properly. Mine don't after getting the BIU replaced. I have to go back to the dealer to see if they can figure it out but I HATE hate going there. I messed around with Techstream and its not something you can fix through that, it must have to be reprogrammed.

OMG to much hassle over these lights,

I changed my dome light, license plate light, reverse bulbs and trunk light with no problems.

I ordered new bulbs for the courtesy lights but I think I'll hold off on them as I don't want any problems with the BUI.

I've given up messing with the lights inside.

Here's a post I found on NASIOC that shows what the tech sees on the screen.

Not that complicated.

Just an update on this issue that i experienced:
Went to the dealership, confirmed that BIU (computer module) needs to be replaced. THey said its Subaru Canada's call whether to cover it under warranty or not. Sure enough they approved it and replaced my BIU, which required reprogramming of both keys as well and said they are not sure what caused the issue, the LED's or something else, but recommended me to keep stock bulbs. I ordered different LED's that are high quality now and going to replace them this saturday *fingers crossed* that issue doesnt come back.

Wish i knew this earlier..noticed it a day after i picked mine up after BIU being replaced, had to take it back again for them to reset it so DRL's work.
