What if the car is left in gear when you remote start with a manual transmission? Is the system smart enough not to start the car?

Interesting...nice to know us regular FRS folks can also have a push start if we wanted one..now for that fancy climate control system

In a typical installation with manual transmission. The car has to be in "reservation mode" for it to be remote started. That is foot on brake, hand brake up, foot off brake, key out, get out of car, car turns off when the door closes.
I never installed a remote start in a manual car with push button though. |

As for the Manual Transmission, @projek_01 Was right And while all remote starts dont have "reservation mode" they all have a "Nuetral/Hand Brake Safety Switch" So in an automatic its wired to the Nuetral switch, in a manual its wired to the Hand brake and will not start unless the brake is applied. The onwer has to have a bit of intelligence as well, don';t leave it in gear if you want to remote start. Even without remote start I have had a manual for 10 years and have never left it parked in gear, just no point. |

We are actually pretty lucky. Our cars have a neutral signal built into the MANUAL transmission. If you tap into this wire the car will not start if it is in gear. I have had a couple cars with remote start on manual transmissions and to be honest it isn't smart. I left it in automatic mode so I didn't have to deal with the pedal dance bs. I thought I ALWAYS left my car in neutral until one day I didn't. Easily overpowered the e brake and plowed into a fence post came out to the starter going and the wheel spinning. (Dirt). Oops. I am interested to see what you find. I've been looking for a solution and haven't found it yet.

Hello all I'm new here and I don't own brz or fr-s but I do think they are a very nice vehicle inside and out. I am also a Autotech with Best buy and I was searching threads the past couple of weeks to find information about doing a viper 5904 on a 2013 brz limited push to start manual trans. as I had an Install set up for one this past week. I'll tell you that there is not a lot of info on this car for adding aftermarket Remote start. Well after doing some research and physically looking at the vehicles wiring I got the viper 5904 Installed and fully functional. I will tell you the dei tech documents for this vehicle are missing some info. I did have to use the dei 1101t but there was a little more to it to get it to work(4 extra relays and 9 diodes). The wiring info was a little off but was easy enough to figure out. While doing research I came across this post and wanted to know has anyone else has done a viper remote start on a brz limited with the PTS and manual trans.? If so any issues that you ran into so far? Well I'll also be checking in to see what you all say.

The 1101t has a built in battery for the factory key fob. You will have to solder the wires directly to the circuit board in the fob. The 1101t will only allow the key fob to be powered when remote started. There is a little more wiring you have to do to get it to work for take over mode. But once the door is unlocked with the aftermarket system you have 30-45 sec to hit brake for take over and it must see the second key fob or it will shut the car down. That is with the 5904 any way. The smart start may not work for take over if you are using a vss3000 or vss4000. You need 3 programmable aux outputs to get take over to work. I would recommend either the vss3001 or a 5 series viper system with add on smart start. I took very detailed notes while I was Installing it so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Looking to do this exact same thing with a Viper 5806V and a VSM250. Can the OP, @TheBatman, or @calispec elaborate on your experience actually installing your r/s?

I used the 1101t for my smart start install. It does not take over and there is no way to turn the car off via the phone or fob once it has been remote started. Someone could potentially brake the window and drive the car away if they wanted to but I have insurance for that. I planned on fixing all that with an arduino but never got around to it. I will when it gets warm and post the code in my build thread. The factory fob is ignored once the car is started so you will have to carry around a viper key fob (or phone) and the factory key fob. The install was pretty easy. Check out my build thread for a little more info.
