Having a auto myself he said he flipped the paddles to down shift if he did it with in 30seconds of slowing down the car stays in that semi manual mode for a moment. He may have just felt engine braking for the first time.

I get a slight engine braking even when not using paddles, I have only used manual mode once or twice.

But my main worry is that the car moves to every crease, imperfection and bumps in the road and shakes my head side to side and back and forth.

My wife swears that she can feel every amoeba on the road when she rides in my BRZ. HUGE difference from driving in my Toyota-Solara on the same roads.

Yeah I guess that is just how this car is but honestly I thought it was a lot smoother than it is now.

Thanks again for all your replies, just another question for Auto transmissions,

Just before coming to a complete stop does the car engine brake itself to a stop? So when I have my foot on the brake I can feel that it is the engine bringing the car to a stop and not the brakes, is that normal?

And it stops relatively rapidly making my head bob a little.

EDIT: this is not on manual mode btw

Mine's an AT, I have 15000 km on it. It never felt like that, at all.
I've driven on all kinds of roads, from horrible dirt roads in the mountains to flat out on German Autobahn, and my beloved GT86 never once surprised me with any of the behaviour you describe. Instead it induces a steady steam of sparks of joy into my life.

What you describe reminds me, however, of the one time I put the wrong lug nuts on a Toyota Avensis. The nuts were just a fraction of a millimetre too short and the rear wheels moved around on the bolts ever so slightly, causing strange sensations when accelerating, braking and turning.

So I'd pull the wheels off and put them back on, just to see if that makes a difference. And check the tire pressure too.

When I take my car in would the dealer reflash my ECU?

Or even better should I ask for it to be reflashed?

If that's the problem, they might. I'll be surprised if the ECU is causing this.

Nah, don't worry, you're under warranty!
If this was a vintage Aston Martin with hand made parts, on the other hand... ;-)

Good luck, mate!

I really do hope that this issue can be resolved, it doesn't seem common at all which probably means it can be fixed?

But I am still really unsure if the car is behaving normally or if it actually is a problem.

When you are braking and slow down to maybe <5km/h (<3mph) does the car's engine brake noticeably?

To me the deceleration is not linear but rather the rate of deceleration increases just before reaching a full stop.

No... Neither my GT86 or any other automatic I've ever owned or driven has behaved like that. Automatic gearboxes just doesn't do that, in my experience.
The Sport mode on the GT86/BRZ makes it shift down when braking hard at moderate to high speeds to utilize engine braking, but not at low speeds like that.
And at idle throttle in first gear my car slides along at about 7 km/h, so if fully engaged when braking at lower speeds the engine would push forward, not add to the braking.

I hope you have had the dealer check your car by now, please report any progress!

I'm sorry you're having these problems and I hope it get sorted so you can enjoy the wonderful spirit of your BRZ :-)

Could there be an issue here? I am not sure If it is all in my head, at least I'm hoping so.

car has 150kms.
Thanks
First off. You need to put some miles of this puppy before you start thinking it's not operating correctly. Things need to break in and seat properly before they start feeling and working normally. It sounds like the transmission has the torque converter lockup hanging in there until it downshifts automatically and that seems to be what you were feeling. I heard these automatic transmissions are different in operation and more sporty in feel then the typical automatic transmission is. Give it and yourself some time to get used to the operation of things and for break in to take affect. Just my .02 cents
