Good luck man. I had a fuck up like this, no way near as bad but someone hit me too. When I took my car to the shop I asked them how they deal with dents since I didn't want them just to dump bondo magic into the dent sand it down, make it straight then paint over it. They said they have a machine that calculates the center of the dent then punches a dime sized whole into the center of the dent to pull it out. Then they spot weld the dent and only used the bondo to smoothen out the surface.

Ask questions that show you know what to look for. Ask them how they color match your paint, ask them how much bondo they actually use, ask them if they sand down the surface around the dents and scratches.

This kind of shit pisses me off, people just don't pay attention anymore but your car will make it through.

First off .... Glad nobody was hurt. Sucks about your car. Find a reputable shop. Make sure they are using genuine Toyota parts. Get the car repaired and go on with your life. I've never felt the same about a repaired car no matter how well it's been repaired. If it was me .... I would already be thinking about my next car replacement. Cars are not forever.

That quarter panel is going to be expensive to repair. The door would be replaced if it were my car.
The concern that I have is the integrity of the door frame surround if they cut it and weld in a new one. That's a high stress area and difficult to fix correctly if you don't have the expertise.

As far as the insurance company goes, do not let them persuade you into accepting parts/repairs/whatever that are not completely satisfactory. Just say no. They will work with you from there.

My FR-S actually got hit by my dad's SUV while it was parked. Said he didn't see it. Mine was on the driver side and the door wouldn't open. The damage wasn't as bad as yours, but was about $2400 in the estimate. So I would expect a number a lot higher than that, even if there's no structural damage to the frame. The whole right side looks like a loss.

Paint matching shouldn't be an issue, though. I got mine done by a Toyota shop, and you can't even tell that there was ever damage.

Spirit7,
Im so sorry about that. I understand your frustration.
I agree with everyone. Go to a reputable BODY/COLLISION shop. Ask around from people you know(preferably people who have had collision repar before). Ive been hit so many times I was glad I asked around. People love giving their opinions about it.

Good luck

You're not, but I guess we don't know how to drive either. I agree that some women suck at driving--men too, but seriously, we're not all idiots. For some reason I thought this forum was better than that.

On topic, sorry and sad to see such damage to your car, Spirit7. I hope it gets resolved quickly and thoroughly. Best of luck.

New door, new quarter panel that isn't a smooth out situation. I was t-boned in a civic took a month or so to fix I paid my 500$ deductible State Farm covered the rest.

This is my biggest concern, I was about to start tracking the car and I'm really worried about integrity in the future.

Part of me wishes they would total the car.

Farrrr from totaled. That's basic basic warranty labor. New pieces at most. I guarantee its structuraly sound.

just do a frame laser test to give you peace at mind. It's far from totaled but it does suck regardless.

Do some research on 'diminished value' and be sure you get enough to cover it if it applies (it varies by state). This accident will show on CarFax and follow the car forever. Despite the repairs you'll find it lowers the value when you go to sell or trade.
