A RWD sedan on a great chassis shared by the twins, does not sound like a bad idea. I just can't imagine how much more rear leg and head room 4 inches would serve.

If Toyota is going to expand the FR-S line but with extra doors, I hope they add some more HP. I had a feeling this car was going to get watered down; vert, 4 door...

I'm glad an idea like this is coming to fruition. I just leased the new Corolla cause I couldn't afford an 86/was told it was too impractical for me. Probably when I come off in 3 years, hopefully, I can afford this!

I would look at a FR-S based four door for my wife. Light weight, sporty handling and rear wheel drive with four usable doors sound perfect for her or the two of us when we are driving together as long as I still have my MR-S for my.play time.
Build it.

In for one if they can resist the urge to add more edges and that retarded Cylon-face grill. Steal a little of the looks from this, stick a six-cylinder in it, keep the handling and overall character the same, refine the interior a bit and try real hard to keep it under 35k, profit.

Not sure why Toyota is trying to market the FR-S this way. They make a lightweight, two door coupe, rear wheel drive sports car that ends up being a huge hit, breaking their expected sales records, shaking up the sports car market. The biggest complaint has been about the lack of power. Why not focus on satisfying that demand first, before trying to move the car into other markets? Who was even asking for a convertible version?
I can see how the sedan would appeal to some people, don't get me wrong. A minor complaint that I've seen about this car has been the lack of leg room in the back seats. While this complaint pales in comparison to the power complaint, I can see a roomier sedan picking up a few extra sales. But seriously... all that needed to be done, was to model this engine after the WRX; small twin scroll turbo, top mount intercooler, and a hood scoop... increase the comp ratio to 10:1 (a fine compromise between 12:0 and 8:2:1), with 5 psi of boost (stock). How difficult would that have really been? I mean seriously, model it just like the old 1980's-1990's line-ups. You have an N/A base model and an upgraded turbocharged model. Run the base model at $25,000 and the turbo model at $32,000... ![]() EDIT: Could have been named... the BRZ STi, the FRS-t, and the GT-S 86. And for those still wanting more power, they will be releasing the MKV Supra at some point... Last edited by Hanni_0176; 10-11-2013 at 07:33 PM. |

But yes, 4 models would be perfect as it would satisfy exactly what the market is asking for right now. This way, the customers are happy and Toyota/Subaru are happy; it's win-win all around. However, I think they need to solidify the increased power delivery before they start worrying about sedans. |

So Toyota claims to take issue with a convertible gt86 because of the added weight, but they are going to make a bigger sedan version with a hybrid (read; heavy) powertrain...okay, that makes sense...
