To get the chest properly tight you really do need a harness...
I do the seat belt lock trick and the chest gets VERY tight.

Tried the child seat clip at the autox this last weekend, worked perfectly I didn't feel like I needed any more support.

So for those of you looking for a simple solution this is it.

Here's an easy solution: Buy a cheap lap belt (Summit Racing, eBay, etc., <$20) and then install it while keeping the existing belts. The old style lap belt can be easily tightened, and you still have the upper belt if you ever need it without the safety concerns of an upper harness without a roll-bar setup in the car.

CG-Lock is great because you can slip the tightening mechanism off for DD, then slide it back on when you want to be perma-cinched into the seat.

The downside is you always have this big metal chunk hanging from your seat belt.

Takes me a couple seconds to install or remove the child belt clip. Plus I can keep both of them in the glovebox for whenever I feel like it.

i used the Schroth Quick Fit in my GTI but only for Autocross.

Feels dangerous to wear it at the track without Hans Device or Roll Bar.

I was thinking about getting CG lock but there has been too many testimonials about it falling apart.

Where did you get the Child seat lock?

I thought about the quick fit or rallye harness, but I feel naked at the track without wearing my HANS, and just have not felt safe running the OEM 3 point and no HANS.

I talked to the guys at HMS Motorsport, a Schroth dealer, about what I could do with this car and being able to wear my HANS, and ended up with the Profi II ASM (Anti-Submarine) 4 point and the Agency Power harness bar. For me, this is the best possible setup. I would take a safe, FIA approved 4 point harness with the ASM and my HANS device vs. the OEM 3 point and no HANS device. With spinal trauma being the second most leading causes of death in a vehicle collision (behind head trauma, which the helmet is there for), I feel being able to wear my HANS as well is just as important as my helmet.

The Schroth Profi II ASM 4 point is an FIA harness, with extra length built into the inboard shoulder belt, so in the event of a collision, the inboard harness expands slightly to rotate your inner shoulder and keep you upright. It's a well tested design.

The Agency Power harness bar has 4 attachment points that bolt into already existing OEM seat belt bolt holes, and is extremely sturdy, with the mounting flanges even being overkill in terms of thickness.

If this was just a track car only, yeah I could put in a proper cage or roll bar, race seat, and a true sub-belt, but I do not want to be cutting up a brand new, street car that I use on track and on street, and driving with a full cage on a street car is just as dangerous. The BRZ and FRS have an incredibly sturdy design, if you look at how well built the B pillars are, you'll see what I mean. IIHS testing showed excellent rollover rating (and actually got really good ratings overall), so that eased my fears of the BRZ roof caving in like it was a Miata in the event of a rollover.

Here are a few examples:

And yes, the B pillars are reinforced on this car the same as with every Subaru model for the last 10+ years.

I would love to run a harness bar and harness with a hans device... but this thread isn't about that. Its about cost effective simple ways to keep you in your seat in temporary situations for daily driver cars, not full on track prepped cars.

I liked my CG Lock on my STi, but on the BRZ it's not as effective due to that tall driver's side latch (I never even noticed that the passenger side was different). It's just too high to be really tight unless I work on increasing my gut, which I'm trying to get rid of...

have you tried....gaining weight? or wearing ski pants and multiple coats?

maybe try putting ur left foot on the dead pedal and pushing yourself back into the seat? you shouldnt need ur left foot in a turn and in accel / decel you're going in a straight line so you wont be experiencing lateral g force.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else; mine is a daily driven street car, not a full prepped track car. Only things other than this setup I have are brakes and tires. That is exactly why I went with this setup; it is a TEMPORARY solution for a street car; as the harness bar can be removed with 4 bolts, and the harnesses disconnect with two clicks. I can uninstall it in 15 minutes after the track and drive it to work the next day stock.

You have to remove interior panels to install the harness bar. Its an easier and cheaper option to just have the rallye harness and tuck it away behind the seat when not in use like I used to do.

But both options still don't equate to the effectiveness of the $8 child clips that provide most of the same functionality of a harness.
