CG Lock, "Mighty Tight", Baby Seatbelt Clip, or Schroth Rallye 4?

Kind of a strange selection...

But I'm looking at good cheap simple options for keeping me in the seat during Autox in my BRZ. I used to run a Schroth harness just for autox in my Impreza, but I sold it awhile back (should have kept it!).

I know a lot of people frown on 4-point harnesses, but leave that discussion out of it because I know all about it and don't care, its just about auto-x in RTR, CS or STR depending on what class I wind up going for...

Anyway, the 4 choices:

1) ~$5 Baby Seat Clip

2) ~$15 "Mighty Tight" Carseat Tightner

3) ~$60 CG Lock

4) ~$170 Schroth Rallye 4 (attached via child safety seat hooks at bottom of rear seat)

I figure I'll start at the cheapest option and go from there...

I'm a fan of the Schroth Harnesses - even the Rallye series has the ASM feature with the extra belt length built into one shoulder strap, and they are DOT approved as well.

Personally I plan on getting the Agency Power harness bar with the Schroth Profi-II HANS. I feel naked not being able to wear it anymore with the BRZ.

I think it was found the Rallye 4 doesn't work well with the BRZ. I and some others have a Rallye 3 which uses the signal attachment point and I have it attached to the seatbelt retainer. You could also attach it to the upper child seat bolt but that's not as sturdy but for autox should be fine. If you do a search for Rallye 3 you can find a good install write up.

Yep, that is correct, Rallye 3 is the only one that works with the BRZ without a harness bar. The attachment points for the Rallye 4 (the bottom of the rear seat) creates too sharp of an angle for the shoulder straps.

Confirmed via HMS Motorsport (Schroth distributor):
"Because the rear seat area is so short, the angle from the shoulder belts down to the factory lap belt anchor points is much too steep, so a harness bar would be needed. Once that is sorted, the Profi II ASM 4 point belt is the best option!"

I'm not suggesting this is a good idea but what I do is pre-lock the standard seat belt by jerking on it a little short of going into the anchor and having to breath out and force myself back into the seat before clicking the belt in place.

I just use the poor man's method: slide the seat back, pull the seatbelt to lock, then slide the seat back forward.

I have a schroth 4-point rallye in mine. I was only able to use the inside LATCH child seat attachment as the outer one does not line up nicely with the attachment (when you get the seat off you'll see what I'm talking about). I ended up using the seat belt buckle attachment and the LATCH attachment bolted joint... it's a little offset but not noticable in the seat (and per Schroths manual, an acceptable mounting solution). The bonus here is the back seat is actually still usable, or atleast as usable as the car can get, without a harness belt behind your back.

As you also noted, I ONLY use this solution in Autocross and wouldn't dream of using it on a track... for that I will be using the factory 3 point belt with CG lock (if I ever actually make it out to a track day).

Im a fan of the CG on the stock belt, with harness's you really need to go all or nothing. By all in I mean fixed back seats and at least a legit weld in roll bar.

I'll go ahead and suggest it's a good idea. I've been doing it for 10 years.

I use this method as well. It gets the job done.

I use the Schroth Rallye-3 harness. It's fine and it doesn't really get in the way. I never use my back seats anyway. I am running without the plastic interior piece where the bolt locks in though.

Most of us are just using the Schroth for autocross. I do not use the 4 point on a track I just use the stock belts.
