Some dealer questions

Got a few questions that I'm hoping I can get answers on.

Firstly, just some background: I plan on buying a 86 in January. Want to get a new 2014 model. Been trying to get info out of the dealers but lots of inconsistent answers so maybe some of you can help.

1) Been informed that the stock radio in the 86 High Spec was updated this month, but can't get any pics or specs/model info on the new deck. Went to Toyota in Midrand, but the sales people don't there don't have any info.

2) According to Toyota SA web site spec, the 86 High now has a boot spoiler (as part of the high package). Again, the dealer was unable to confirm that new cars will arrive with this. Can anyone confirm.

3) If I want a white 86 High Spec manual, what is the expected waiting time on a new car once I'm ready to purchase. Seems that when I phone a dealer and ask, they cannot give me any straight answers - almost appears that dealer stock and colours are based on pure luck. I also asked about the inclusive spoiler and new radio and the response was that they can only tell once a car physically arrives.

I must say that I am really frustrated by the lack of dealer knowledge on these cars. Maybe I'm just speaking to the wrong sales people.

Hi
New radio is a touch screen so should look good. It will be fitted with the brz spoiler. Price goes up to cater for the additional goodies. Best to phone around and check for pre-ordered stock at different dealers.

Hey Moe

sounds very familiar. had the same problems when I bought my car. One dealer didn't even know the car existed..lol..best would be to book the car, let them give you some proof. Toyota has a main software system where they book the cars coming into the country. When the car arrives then you can see what's in and whats not. You can always decide to leave it if you don't want it. If they force you to take it, just laugh and walk away.

That is correct. You can see the new radio on the website, just click on the 360 interior.

Otherwise google Toyota TAS300.

Yep - sadly pricing seems to have gone up a bit this month. I wonder if there were any further mechanical/technical updates on these cars too since they are now out for a little while.

None except for functioning daytime running lights on the High spec. There is also now a proper boot mat if I'm not mistaken.

The radio and spoiler is not cheap though and would cost you around R20k if you bought it separately.

Is it (OEM reverse cam) available from Toyota as an option?

Unfortunately not but there are some DIY tutorials. Can fit one yourself for less than R300.

Saw the Toyota tec data sheet.
Differences:
-boot spoiler
-touch screen radio, no satnav
-DRL comes on automatically in day time, no more need to switch to main lights to turn them on in the day.
-R21' more expensive on AT high

cabriolet will be available next year June.
will be on show at the Jnb motor show end of this month.

That is interesting because it seems the projects had been put on hold.

I know it'll be at JIMS though.
