For a DD FRS/BRZ hands down. With the quirks of the rotary engine (flooding, oil burning, and engine reliability questions) I would stay away from them. I did get to test drive an 08 used MT RX-8 and man that thing was fun to drive and redline!

I had a RX-8 pre-ordered for its first model year. Loved everything about the car, but the whole power scandal (originally rated at 250hp lowered to 238hp right before release) gave me a way out. In hindsight I think I dodged a bullet with all the reliability issues.
I still love everything about the car (practical space, great handling, interesting motor). Just wish the reliability was there. |

I don't understand why it's taking Mazda so long to come up with the improved rotary. I mean, I'm glad they're really taking the time and all to make sure the rotary delivers on its promise, but an independent engineer already took a rotary engine and got rid of its flooding and reliability problems years ago with a simple mechanism (though I can't seem to find that video anywhere now).
