i have a lot of law enforcement experience: really depends on what town you're driving through. keep in mind since you have a red coupe that already attracts a lot of unwanted police attention.. 35 all around shouldn't be too bad. in the rain it's really dark though

i have 20% all around and 70% on my windshield. hassled a few times only in town where i know i shouldn't be driving to begin with...
had 20% on my sti also, never an issue. just dont be a douchebag. also, roll them down when you see a cop jsut to be safe if the town you're in is notorious for busting balls. i live in Edison, and no one cares. i dont have a front plate either. |

Thanks for all the responses. I'm leaning towards 35 on the rear and sides and leaving the front alone. I'm thinking of going to leeberbs in Hillsborough or TropicTint in Union. Anyone have experience with either? Sounds like leeberbs should be cheaper (Tropic quoted $249) for rear and sides.

Pfft your over exaggerating, I understand the cop thing, just do your window down if you get pulled over, there's no laws on how dark the back window is.
And the contrast looks the sexiest in my opinion, but pretty obviously illegal lol Quote:

I went in the middle on mine. I have 20 back three and 35 fronts. You can always see through it. I've never been pulled over by a cop driving around, BUT I have had a cop STANDING on the side of the road nail me. He was just standing there pulling over 4-5 people at a time for no front license plates and tint. He was getting 30-40 in a couple hour stretch. Got her signed off and the tint is back on. Needless to say, I don't go that way anymore

IMO you should go even all the way around or if you must go darker do darker only on the rear window.
if you have different % right next to each other it just doesn't look good, and at that point cops know you're tinted, lets not play around. they see anyhting BUT a clear window they know, so either do it and do it how you want and make it look clean, or dont do it at all. i know plenty of people that regret going really light on the %, because they get hassled anyway. either go 35% all around or 20. depending on the color of your car. here is what mine looks like: ![]() ![]() at night i have no issues, who ever said they have to roll windows down to see is talking BS. at night driving you dont need to do that unless you're at a place that has NO lighting at all. honestly even with tint AND an autodimming mirror people's headlights still bother the shit out of me at night, go right into my eyes. |

It depends on what towns you commute through regularly. Certain towns I've never been bothered with, while other towns (ie. Wall NJ) cops are guaranteed to give you a ticket and likely require court. I haven't tinted my BRZ yet but I want to badly. If i do tint, I want my fronts and windshield done but don't want to panic every time I see a cop. Just as lame of a law as requiring front plates in nj.

I got an illegal u turn ticket in NJ for turning around to go into a fast food place. The road was empty, the cop was a block away at a red light in an unmarked car.
I would never put illegal mods in NJ based on that experience alone. |

Point is that tint on the front windows is illegal in NJ. That's a fact, but most people get tint on the front anyways and assume the risk. Whether or not you get pulled over is just dumb luck. You can mitigate it by rolling down your windows when you see a cop, not driving like an ass, let off the throttle and coast by if you have a loud exhaust, etc. Basically, don't draw any unwanted attention to yourself. |
