NJ Cops and Tinting?

Anyone have experience with ticketing by NJ cops for tinting? I'd like to get the sides 35 or 50, but I also don't want to deal with getting pulled over for it often. So I was wondering whether anyone has experience with it.

Thanks.

i've gotten pulled over in my FJ which had 20% by a statey..total bs i was in a convoy of FJ's en route to rausch i just happend to be last and said police over the cb and i've gotten pulled over in my taco which had 35%

both ended up no ticket just a pullover and told to take them off and they're illegal...60%+ of cops here have tints so i guess it depends.. i will say this, 2 door car with tints is an instant look over

never had any issues, myself. troopers are the ones who would really give you crap. they typically see me run my plates or whatever and then turn around.

20 on the back and 30 on the front and I have not had any issues with the police, I live about 3 doors down from the police station and they don't give the car a second glance. I would imagine they would give you shit for it if they caught you doing something else stupid.

keep your eyes out for police...and when you see one, obey the law, roll down your windows, and don't stare at them like you're doing something wrong.

I remember one time I got pulled over. I wasn't doing anything wrong, and my windows were rolled down. He said he thought it was weird that I had my windows rolled down when it was 10 degrees F outside. I just said "honestly, I have them rolled down because I don't wanna get pulled over for my tints". He let me go, lol.

I'm not tinting my car, it already stands out... Unless you never exceed the speed limit or drive spirited it is just something else they can tack on if you get pulled.

20% all around here. Police haven't even looked at me. However, my car is silver and I drive normal 99% of the time. I do feel that cops go after red cars more though whether that's a stereotype or not.

If you're going to worry about a ticket everytime you drive then I wouldn't get tints. Not worth ruining your driving experience for it, imo. There's too many unknown factors to say you will/won't get pulled over.

I went to apple auto for my tint, i wanted 15% because my civic with 20% was just a tad to light for me in certain lights. Long story short i got there and the dude said he the only thing he had darker than 20 was 5...

its dark as shit, i love the look of the contrast on my white, it sucks backing up at night, and ive had it on for 2 weeks now with no attention from cops, even gassed up beside an officer after i got it done and nothing was said.. yet.

5% is insaneeeeeeeeeee. My friend had 5% on his jeep and had to roll down his windows to be able to see anything in his side view mirrors at night....thats just stupid and dangerous IMHO.

He also got tickets and almost arrested by the cops bc they couldn't see into his car at all - which is understandable bc from a police officer's standpoint, how are they supposed to know you dont have a gun or knife or malevolent intentions if they can't see you at all?

Visibility at night was something I overlooked when considering tints. Was a bit tough to get used to at first. 20% makes it hard to back out of the driveway sometimes. Even at 4 way stops I can have trouble checking for pedestrians through the side windows

I have 20% all around. Visibility at night is pretty tough, but you'll slowly get use to it. If your area is known to pull people for tints, don't do it. But if you're looking to lower the temps in the car on a hot sunny day, then get 3M Crystalline 70% or 90%.

I ran Lumar Stealth tint 35% all around on my WRX for 10 years without any issues.

On the BRZ, I'm running Madico Wincos 45% front and 30% rear sides and rear. No issues and no problems with night time driving. 20% or less is just way too dark IMO. It looks great, but when your ability to see at night is hampered, I don't think the looks justify the risks.
