great write up for the DIY @Enigmus -- gave me all the info I needed to install my Kartboy crank pulley. Though like many of you the toughest part was taking getting that damn crank bolt loose. It requires a ridiculous amount of force to break it loose. Broke one breaker bar and bent another ratchet using a jack handle for leverage. Bought a 3rd 24" breaker bar and it finally gave, though not before a good amount of struggling and me almost throwing in the towel. Everything else was pretty straightforward. Did have to double-check the belt was properly seated everywhere, and on my re-check found that the belt was a little off on the underside of the crank pulley, so glad I re-checked it all before I put everything back on and started the car.

Like others have noted with the Kartboy pulley there is a whine at about 2500 rpm but since it's a known thing I am not too worried about it. Definitely felt some improvement in the throttle response and acceleration, though it's hard to quantify. I was going to buy a Perrin but picked up the Kartboy for a good deal less at 86FEST, so I am happy with the bang-for-buck factor of this mod.

If you follow the DIY - you should remember that the tensioner pulley is a LH thread, if you loosened it to remove the belt you are going to need to tighten it again to spec (but bear in mind, LH Thread).

Glad to hear someone else mention this. I barely notice it anymore.

I saw a car at 86fest with the stock pulley and it was shaking way worse than that.

With the OEM crank pulley my tensioner pulley would wobble slightly. The car idles smoother now with the new perrin pulley.

My suggestion for people experiencing wobble is to put some slack in the belt using the tensioner pulley. Feel with your fingers around any pulleys that have a ridge and make sure the belt is not riding on the ridge. I did this and found that the belt was sitting on the ridge.

Quick question on the alternator pulley if anyone has replaced it with one of the options out there. Does anyone know the size of the nut you need to remove?

Its a 24mm nut. If you have an impact gun that is fast enough, it'll zip it off with ease. If not, you'll have to use a chain wrench or something to keep the pulley stationary.

Has anyone had any CELs with any aftermarket pulley so far?

The Kartboy pulley says "A good bit lighter than stock but not light enough to throw a CE light."

http://www.fa20club.com/product.php?...cat=293&page=1

So anything lighter than 1 lb, or 1 lb with carbon fiber drive shaft with throw a CEL from what I've read.

Thanks for the guide @Enigmus ! Still having trouble with the crank bolt. I was trying to loosen it and thought I was making progress when something gave and had me diving head first into the engine bay. My socket adapter snapped!!! Luckily I caught myself and didn't ding anything. This is one stubborn bolt!, doesn't help with the squishiness of the pulley.

While i tough out the night in defeat, Id appreciate any more advice on getting this sucker loose.
